Likeable enough bloke, shit politics.

If I did vote for him, it would be purely for this reason:

It's clear from that clip why Boris is so popular with chaps of an anarchist persuasion!

What did happen about that in the end? Are there now no (or few) pigeons in and around Traf Sq? (It's quite a while since I was last there.)

they are great survivors i am in two minds regards pigeons they are a pest but you can.t deny them the right to try to survive ,they are one of natures creatures. there are two or three spots where i live were people put out food for the birds and it's mostly the pigeons who tuck in

Boris J's chances:

- He will win the Tory nomination, I imagine, because he is the only well-known contender and lots of people like him

- It's difficult to see how he will win the election. I don't think many Londoners want a buffoon for a mayor. BJ will have to adopt some serious policies for London and he will have to change his manner a lot to stand a chance. Can he do that?

Apart from being a fat tory cunt who is responsible for the misery of millions and a representative of one of the most inexcusable political ideologies going, this idea that he is a funny and personable guy is fictitious.

Well he is funny and personable, and while he's a tory I think blaming him for ALL the misery they've inflicted is a tad harsh.

mayor of London is an admin post - it may be a hight profile on with a bit of responsibility, but its still admi.

Ken is unsurpassed in this role.

BJ cant bring anything to it.

I know the tories are a very tempting party for you but try saying the above about the BNP or NF.

Why are they a tempting party for me? You know severely LESS than fuck all about my poltical views, and I'm certainly no Tory voter. I'd sooner castrate myself then bathe in a vat of salty vinegar than vote Tory.

What about John Bird? Just heard him on the World at One. He is standing as an independent. I'd vote for him, I think, but I don't know where he's going to get the money and canvassers etc to run an effective campaign. Does he stand a chance?

Birds 'loaded' these days. He's an after dinner speaker charging £2-4 grand a speech. He's a 'social entrepreneur' these days he's not skint.

He also penned this lovely little line.....

"I'm middle-class. I got out of the working class as quickly as I could. The working class is violent and abusive, they beat their wives and I hate their culture."

Was that meant to be a link? If not, how not?

One of Boris' rivals for the Tory nomination is a Harrow councillor called Lurline Champagnie. She has some strong views.

Blue is the new black, says mayoral candidate

Multiculturalism has failed London, a Harrow councillor declared as she launched her bid to be the capital's mayor.

Cllr Lurline Champagnie blamed multiculturalism for creating tension among the city's ethnic and religious communities and complication and inefficiency in its government.

Speaking at a rally at Harrow Arts Centre in Uxbridge Road, Hatch End, on Monday evening as she opened her campaign to win the Conservative candidacy for next year's mayoral election, Cllr Champagnie told an audience of supporters drawn from many racial and religious groups: "Multicultrualism divides, it does not harmonise. Multiculturalism holds communities back, it does not empower.

"And the division it casues infects social cohesion, performance in schools, life chances through higher education, choices of career, standards of living and whether or not someone lives where they want or in a house of their own.

"Multiculturalism is the key factor in most areas of social policy - crime, drugs, behaviousal problems, education and health."

She said that the simple reason that these evils and causes of social division were not being tackled effectively by the current Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, was "political correctness".

"I am the Heineken candidate: I reach parts of London other candidates, particularly Ken Livingstone, cannot reach," she said.

"I abhor political correctness. It prevents any discussion or debate about race, inter-race relations and the tensions that exist between groups."

Cllr Champagnie, who served as a Harrow councillor for 20 years and was the borough's first black mayor in 2004-05, said when she came to live in England from Jamaica as a teenager in 1956 she did not expect patronising handouts or any unfair advantage.

Sadly, I don't think she has much chance.

An interesting development might be the RMT standing a Mayoral candidate. Afaik they're gonna stand candidates in the Assembly elections but not sure yet whether that will include the Mayor.

Black tory councillor demonstrates drawbridge mentality shocker.

I think she might respond that you are misrepresenting her views by 180 degrees. In her opinion, the policy of treating people as members of this that or the other 'ethnic' group (i.e., multiculturalism), rather than as members of the general public, is divisive and harmful - digging motes between groups of people, to follow your image.

She seems to have a rather exaggerated idea of the role of multi-culti policies, TBH, but I sympathise with her irritation.

she did not expect patronising handouts or any unfair advantage.

That's drawbridge mentality. I don't necessarily disagree with many of her comments - when was the last time you saw Leeeeeeee Jaspar or Trevor Philips addressing issues of inter-ethnic racism between non-white groups in London? Never.

No, it's just opposition to 'positive action' and related patronising special here-this-is-for-your-kultcha treatment bollocks.

I've got to agree, I'm not a big fan of Livingstone these days but he's better than Johnson.
