Think I might forgive a a Sirocco but that Golf! :D

There is a fully raised-transmission 4WD Golf conversion on the roads round here. Looks just as nuts too!

I forget which tuning pundit it was who said that there's only one piece of automotive engineering worse-designed than the VW Beetle's front suspension, and that's the VW Beetle's rear suspension. Yes, they look cute and they're tough as old boots, but they're pretty damn crude. The Imp was a really groundbreaking design: shame that early production problems spoiled its potential.

Reminds me of the launch of the mk3 Astra when someone from Vauxhall said the chassis engineers would be answering questions later and some wag who'd driven one quipped "it had chassis engineers?!" :D

The really shocking thing is that the world's most successful sportscar is just an expensive beetle (sorry Griff).

Now can you see yourself in a Volkwagen?

Only if it's been chromed. :p

I've gone and asked me Mum , who had a Hillman Imp and then a VW Beetle.

"Which was better ? VW - it was much more reliable. But in terms of handling, the Hillman was a much better drive."

My Mum is Jeremy Clarkson and I never knew it....
