Interms of propa countries- that exist now - theres 193/4 if you include Taiwan ( )- this is based on UN membership etc & not breakway statelets etc etc

so if you are trying to do all countries, then I think this is the only definative way of doing it.

so it 58/193 for me. must do better

It does sound good actually. I've been to the border region around Ararat but didn't leave Turkey, next time I will. You can get what, about six countries in a 50-mile radius I suppose.

And on that note, where in the world can you do the most countries per km travelled?

Do you reckon that anyone has ever visited every single country in the world that existed during their lifetime? I don't.

Simon Calder (travel Editor of the Independent) claims he was the youngest person ever to visit every country in the world (he was in his 20s, I think). I don't know if he has been to new countries that have been created since he achieved that, or how he defined 'country', nor do I know exactly how he did it.
