Virus! I've tried everything I know.....

Right then.

Spybot seems to have done the trick.

:) :)

I was riddled with trojans and malware.

Looks like one sneaked in somehow and then invited a whole host of playmates. They'd turned off my anti-virus and were absolutely running havoc.

Little bastards seem to have been clobbered for now.

27 removed before a reeboot and another found on the reeboot.

Buggers!

*mood improves considerably*

Thanks so much Drew, minnie and everyone else.

I definately have a thing going on here. The sense of panic and loss and desperation at the thought of not being able to access my pooter and the internet for a few hours/days is palpable.

Oh well.

Many thanks again.

:)

Probably have. But are you using a firewall?

Just for future like.

If you're using XP there's one built in but it won't stop trojans if they get installed on your PC. As in, anything installed on your computer trying to comunicate out to the net, it assumes is legit. it's worth turning on though if you haven't already. If you've service pack 2 installed, the firewall options are in start menu, settings, control panel.

You might want to install Xone Alarm as well which is a free firewall program and will give more protection than the Windows one alone.

Your PC has been compromised so don't do things like banking or anything sensitive on there anymore. Its just not safe until you totally reinstall windows.

What might be a good idea is to boot from the CD and repair windows or reinstall it. That will prevent anything that wasn't recognised and also prevent any rootkits that are very hard to detect and remove.
