I wasn't going to drink last night, being on call, but this thread gave me no option but to sink a bottle.

I'm just finishing a bottle of shiraz that I opened an hour ago. Not just any shiraz but marks and fucking spencers lost fucking sheep shiraz :p :D

Love red wine and once I've opened the bottle it's gonna get drunk tonight - never save any for tomorrow. However I've been working nights for a week and haven't been able to have any - wouldn't want to go in pissed.

Trouble is it's so bloody dear here - I tend to buy as much as I can by the cases when I go to France in the car (usually 2 or 3 times a year).

As an aside I brought my sun a couple of bottles of red back from France in February. I told him I wanted his opinion on which was the more expensive as one of them was 25% dearer than the other - he 'reported' back with his opinion and I told him that the one he chose was the most expensive - it cost Euro0.99 (about 65p), the other one cost Euro0.79 (about 54p) which included production, bottle, cork, transport & the supermarket's profit !

And they were both eminently drinkable - I've drunk a lot worse that cost a lot more.

The local supermarket seem to have an ongoing "special offer" on Hardys Shiraz Reserve and Hardys Cabernet-Sauvignon Reserve.

A three litre cask of either, works out at GBP 3:00 per bottle. :)

And they deliver free.

I've just received my latest delivery of 12 litres.

:D

That is really bloody cheap compared to the mainland! Even the absolute bog-standard Chinese-made Great Wall brand costs 30 RMB a bottle here!!

Yer.

Our good Financial Secretary, Henry (horse face) Tang just halved the import duty from 80% of value to 40% of value on each bottle.

And buying it by the 3 litre box, on special offer, makes for a dirt cheap (equivalent of 3 quid [@ 45 RMB] per bottle) drop of fairly decent Aussie Shiraz or CabSav.

How much would a Hardys Shiraz cost in the UK, anyone?

:)
