Vietnamese Restaurant in Coldharbour Lane

...so true.

Hoa Viet still rules this side of London then.

Thanx for the review Rocket no 9

Is Hoa Viet any good then? There seem to have been mixed reviews of it on this thread...

Returned from Coast as there was nowhere to park outside of Hoa Viet.

We ordered:

starters:
pork/prawn summer rolls.
beef wrapped in betal leaves.
the pancake pork and prawn dish (which never came as it was apparently sold-out!).

main:
Beef pho.
Chicken pho.

We were left disappointed. The highlight was the summer rolls. The downer was the rest. Yep. The herbs and beansprouts aren't fresh. The cuts of beef in my pho was like Sunday dinner leftovers. The service was poor. I mean real poor. We had to ask for bowls for our starters, our table to be cleared (x 3) and I was annoyed as all four waiters weren't attentive and looked utterly dickless. I wonder how these waiters gonna service a packed restuarant?

VERDICT:
Service: 2/5. They need an experienced waiter to train the newbies.
Food: 2/5. Unless you're a cockroach, fresh ingredients is the key to good tasting Vietnamese foods.

Overall: 4/10. Be a good idea if they had comment cards so they can improve. The first three months of any restuarant business is vital for building a good reputation it's surroundings. Coast has the potential in being a successful joint, it's in a good catchment area and so on...but I can't see this happening until they sort the basics out.

Ms T, Hoa Viet is very good. The pho there consists of fresh herbs and prime cuts of meat. They also do awesome hotpots and fried tofu.

What's all this environmental crap associated with Hoa Viet? I saw that documentary and am 100% sure it was a totally different Vietnamese restaurant! Damn, loose comments like that is so damaging to any business. The Vietnamese restuarant in the programme was further east of Camberwell - was painted all white had an opened entrance.

"Down the road at Camberwell's Hoa Viet, an environmental health officer found thick black goo under the extractor hood and a pile of dead cockroaches under the fridge. "Don't worry," he said, "it's only the fan that's making their legs move."
