Four life sentences in El Vesubio case
The trials of 63 dirty war bigwigs (incl. Guillermo Suárez Mason, Adolfo Miguel Donda Tigel, Alfredo Astiz, Jorge Eduardo Acosta, Ricardo Cavallo) are reported to be wrapping up. There's a radio 4 programme on Alfredo Astiz next week. I wonder if the trials and general political awkwardness had any bearing on the 'red' pope's decision to give Argentina a miss on his current tour.
Roberto Gonzalez, one of those wanted for the murder of Rodolfo Walsh was picked up in Brazil last week.
perhaps there's an arrest warrant for him
edited to make my meaning clear to the terminally confused.
Er... yes. Obviously. That's why he was picked up. What are you on today?
He means the pope, I assume.
Lord alone knows. Like most people, I gave up trying to figure out what Pickman means a long time ago.
But you kept watch for one hour (and four minutes) like a true disciple.
pickman is richard pickman, a fictional character in lovecraft's story 'pickman's model'. that's what pickman means. i'd have told you if you'd asked.
like a true loon
They open wide their mouth at me, As a ravening and a roaring loon.
I like the the current popes actions at the moment but evil regimes tend to poision everybody around them and Argentina was more poisionous than most
No I didn't, nobody could think about Pickman for that long. I fell asleep.
I know what Pickman means, I read the story when I was thirteen. Before I grew out of Lovecraft, which like most people I did by the age of fifteen. Most people, but not you.
mmm, I still blame 'The Case of Charles Dexter Ward' for ongoing underground nightmares of pits and labyrinths.
A life sentence for one and 9-25 years for 7 others who were based at Mansion Sere which was the subject of the fillum Crónica De Una Fuga.
There are 59 (not 63) on trial for crimes connected with the ESMA. List of names here. There's a Lynch in there, a former navy captain - Irish name, must be a great lad.
I knew no good would come of them Lynches going to (south) Amerikaye.
Not all bad eggs
This Argentinian Lynch certainly was...
“In my son’s veins flowed the blood of Irish Rebels!” (Ernseto Guevara – Lynch, Father of Che Guevara)
There are Irish names in the lists of the victims of course, more of them than there were Dowlings. And there are Walshes listed in the names of plaintiffs in the ESMA link who I assume are relatives of Rodolfo Walsh and his daughter Maria Victoria who rather than being captured, killed herself after being surrounded in a shootout.
(eta: oops, the Walshes are plaintiffs in the Mansion Sere case link. I dunno if they're related to Rodolfo Walsh. I don't think so)
It's up there now.
Grandmothers announce 117th grandchild recovered

119th found. Unusually, the mother wasn't murdered after the birth.
Wonder if he was named after this one?
Link broken m8. If you mean the SP Mario Bravo, our man was named by the babystealers so I think it's unlikely.
Link fixed ta. Yes,bit of a a brain fail there on my part.
(Looking him up made me realise i've been calling mario bava mario bravo for 30 years).
The much missed copliker has uploaded the entirety of the wonderful and important Night of the Pencils to mark the 40th anniversary of the murders/rapes/kidnappings.
I'm not going to be on much but I'll try update this every so often.
Child 120 and 121 were identified recently.
Maulín discovered his real identity in 2009, and his parents survived, but the grandmothers decided he qualified.
Maximiliano Menna is 121.
For people into comics (and aliens!), there is an English translation of Héctor Germán Oesterheld's The Eternonaut out. He is mentioned earlier as having been detained in El Vesubio before being murdered
Some more convictions a couple of months ago.
Operation Condor trial.
Ex-head of Argentina air force sentenced in 1978 abduction of activist couple
Child 68 - Guillermo Pérez Roisinblit. Guardian link in the story above says that his new "parents" nicknamed him "the Jew" when he was growing up.
I posted a vid of Uruguayan journo Gerardo Brusezzi interviewing his torturer Turco Julian but AJ made it private for some reason but it's on one of their other channels.
Spoiler: torture vid
There is a handy chronological list of all resolved cases on the grandmothers site, which I hadn't noticed until now ffs.
Separate names with a comma.
