I just signed up for the travel free alerts text service that TfL are now offering http://alerts.tfl.gov.uk/. Got a text just as I was leaving work letting me know the Victoria line was down so I went a different way. It was still a pain but it was less of a pain...

I got from St pans to brixton using northern line to stock well. Them changing. No problems. hopefully will be working tomorrow cos I gotta be at st p for 9.
The 59 will take you all the way there from Brixton. I prefer it to the tube if I'm not in a hurry. Will probably take about 45 mins at that time of day.

It goes over Waterloo Bridge - lovely views of London, down to St Pauls one way, and to the Houses of Parliament the other way. It's worth doing just for that.
