Vicky Cristina Barcelona

The rapid exchanges between Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem.

Actually there isnt that much Spanish in the movie at all. Which is odd.

Im DL Woman on Top as I type :)

Oh yeah that was fine. Their accents are more Americanised when they speak Spanish so it seems like the're speaking rapidly, but all the words are clear and it's far easier to understand than some Spaniards I've come across who speak so fast it's a fucking joke.

Is the plot about an old decrepid man being lusted after by a couple of hot young women? ;-)
Have you seen Eurotrip! ;)

Mads- I think I agree about Penelope being the only person who resonated with anything remotely real.

It made me want to sit out on the balcony with a glass of red.

How did t compare to your Barcelona?

Well, the blokes arent as sleazy as Bardem comes across in that movie for starters! :D

Recognised some of the streets and that... that's about it really. :D

Saw this last night and quite enjoyed it. Usual Woody Allen analysis of relationships with his sexual fantasies thrown in.

Saw it last night too....utter shite. "return to form" means another false dawn for Woody the guy simply doesn't know how to make good films. It might be better than the risible Match Point but that doesn't make it any good.

I thought Cruz was good - and looked amazing ;) - but I always struggle with her because in English speaking roles she seems so wooden compared the utter brilliance in her Spanish films. Compare and contrast this with Almodovar's Volver and it's embarassing. Bardem's also a good actor and he played his role well given it's utterly banal restrictions.

He even managed to fit in plenty of lazy Spanish/Barcelona stereotypes...should go back to filiming in New York

That was absolutely appalling. I'm stunned by how well it was received, to be honest. Unremarkable performances in a film with no point beyond some glib "aren't Latins all emotional and sexy and that".

toss

well yeh, but that's not quite enough :D

Rebecca Hall was a solid performer, Scarlett did her now obligatory floaty ingenue routine, and Bardem and Cruz just played Latin stereotypes.
