Verhoeven's Black Book

The film is based on several events that really did happen in Holland during WWII. It didn't say it was based on a true story anywhere in the film. It's fairly obvious that the film is made in a style of classic Hollywood war time adventures and that it isn't supposed to be a naturalistic docu-drama.

There's even a reference to Greta Garbo in the film to give you a hint that this is the case :)

its exciting but a bit silly. the plot twists are contrived and make it implausible
I expected it to have been based on a real story like so many excellent war films like heroes of the tellemark . Its full of thrills and spills but ulitmately it felt like he was taking the piss out of his audience

So are The Great Escape and Where Eagles Dare.
The Heroes Of Telemark and The Dambusters would be implausible if they weren't true.

the great escape is based on a true story as well. where eagles dare obviously isn't but its a classic and it was made over forty years ago.
black book is a pastiche of these kind of films. I'm not saying don't watch it but it did leave me feeling a little cheated

has anyone seen his other dutch war film soldier of orange?
