Vegan cafes and restaurants in Brixton

Discussion in 'Brixton' started by Thimble Queen, Jul 26, 2013.

  1. After discovering the l'express cafe is closed tonight I'm now at a loss on where to go for a meal tonight. I am veggie, my friend is vegan. Other mates aren't fussy. So doesn't need to be somewhere completely vegan but just that offers vegan options....

    Can anyone suggest anywhere?

What about the Ethopian, i think it's Ethopian or Eritrean, place on coldharbour?

    "roti lady!"

is what my only vegan chum bangs on about ad neaseum. I have no idea who this lady is, or indeed if she is in fact a Lady.
  3. Roti lady isn't really somewhere you can sit down properly... She's a bit of an institution, you should give her a try. You'll be pleased to know her foods not just vegan :p

i'm boycotting all brixton food purveyors until the Jeff the Chef debacle is resolved.

How about Elephant in the Village? Has vegan options. Or Khamsa on Acre Lane. Mr Shakes is vegan and he eats happily in both those places
  6. Good call thanks shakespearegirl :)

Would go with Khamsa over Elephant, but horses for courses.

The roti lady 's unit is looking very smart with its new pink colour scheme.

  9. I've only had elephant once... i thought the dahl was a bit overspiced, not in a chilli way i wouldn't have minded that. I'd try it again, might have been an off day....

Also we have decided to go for burritos :)

Elephant's very decent, but I'd say Khamsa for atmosphere as well as food. Where do you get vegan burritos?

by that logic, a hamburger can be considered vegan if you just ditch the hamburger.

    vegans deserve better than this!
  18. Your vegan friend will be very happy that you're fighting for the rights of vegans everywhere.

Not usually a fan of processed veg food, but if I see them I'll give it a go. I don't really buy tofu either, not that I don't like it, it just doesn't feature much in my cooking, plus I never seem to see it in the shops I go to. So, errrr, thanks! I guess I'm trying to say.
  22. Nah i'm not normally a fan of processed food either, I do miss sossidge tho

I'd happily swap veggie burgers for real ones (except cheese nomnomnom), but I've yet to have a veggie sausage that really did the same trick as a meat one.

Bit late, but Fujiyama has lots of veggie options with no obvious non-vegan ingredients. Unless they put fish sauce in everything or something, I'd have thought you'd be ok. Or of course there's Khan's, assuming they don't use ghee.
