Vans / Campervans - Where To Look (Again)

isn't it?

and we took my mate al, who's dead clever and has a Merc and he reckons it's a really good find as well - great nick, lovely conversion.

I'm about as excited as i've been about anything in years. Always wanted a Merc camper. I mean technically, it's Pie Eye's but if i fill it with Elvis kitsch quick it's kinda mine then too :D

I can so totally drive!! :p

I drive minibuses fairly regularly, although this is a bit different - older and no power steering.

I'll get used to it and if I don't, I'll sell it again and get something different.

Hurray!
You is teh hippiez! :D
(You do realise a spending spree of unprecedented proportions is about to take place to equip your new little home - I can't walk past anything in green melamine without snapping it up!)

guys - it's GORGEOUS!

*jealous jealous jealous jealous*

Reminds me of my VW - we got a hammock which we strung between the roof and trees and things for summer - it was gorgeous!! We used to fit shit loads of people in it to get down to Glastonbury. We got in on convoy once with loads of (proper) travellers in their removal lorries and vans with circus poles sticking out the top.

By the way, gaijinboy's oldest friend (they bought a flat together before I met him) converts vehicles to LPG. He's done his whole family's and buys cars, converts them and then resells them. If you want I can find out from him how much conversion costs?

Um wow!

That is actually really nice....!

In my default cynical and crabby state, I tend to  these days at the thought of "roughing it" *ahem* in a camper, but I reckon you came up trumps there.

Sorry to be negative, but you know campervans are amongst the most pollutting cars in the world?

For some reason there are four busses on my road and one parks outside my house - everytime they start the engine I have to rush to close all the windows as the house gets stinked out with fumes from the beast. I wouldnt be suprised if a new 4x4 has less emissions.

Yesterday I went past a 4x4 2seat japanese jeep and someone had scratched "Car Too Big" into the paintwork - the fact is a campervan is way more polluting than that particularl model (which actually has a relatively small engine).

I love the look of old VW's - all classic cars are a lot nicer than modern cars, but the fact is they are also far more polluting and its probably best that they all become museum pieces. Even a 2CV which has a tiny engine, pollutes more than many brand new cars cars 4 times the size.

yeh, thanks for that.

we'll be using purely for long trips, are planning to get it converted and will mean we won't be forced into flying when we can't afford exorbitant train fares. Since we'll use it so rarely, i suspect it's therefore FAR LESS polluting than a regular car we'd use all the time.

Plus this vehicle has a great engine so it's hardly going to be pissing out clouds of black smoke. If you have the money to lend us to buy a brand new green van, please do so.

Congratulations Pie and Dub :)

It's absolutely gorgeous - am so glad you've found the right van at last - it looks perfect!!!!! :)

Here's to impromptu weekends to the countryside whenever you feel like it!!!

And a lovely comfy bed to sleep in at festies.....

I swear you will never want to camp in tents again :)

And you can take a van load of booze to festies with you....great, innit :)

I know what you mean but as Dub said, if we like the vehicle and want to keep it I'd be keen to convert to LPG - which is a greener fuel than petrol or diesel. Another saving fund to start...

It's not spewing out black smoke - I did test drive it yesterday and I won't be using it daily - it's purely for trips and festivals.

lol.. that's a bit of an exaggeration there, by some hundred million + vehicles.

A recent study found that 50% of emissions is caused by poorly maintained vehicles. You can have a nice and shiny two year old computerised fuel injection, catalytic converter with super high mpg - which will all be in vain if the timing belt is a fraction of a degree out.

e2a: Congrats you big pair of hippy-loving ne'er do wells :D

Congrats :)

Nice to see you both yesterday btw, sorry if I was too much of a pissed twat, was a long night :D

converted - used to be an airport ambulance so it has very low mileage. Still has lights above the rear doors and some fittings from its days as an ambulance.
