Van Morrison

Over the last year Moondance has become one of my favourite albums .

However, I've tried to get into Astral Weeks but I cannot, no matter how hard i try. The odd good track surrounded by tuneless dirge

Don't know much about Van Morrison; but just listened to Moondance. Nice melody spoilt by Morrison's voice: it grates. Sinatra would have done the song justice

A friend of mine had a party that Van came to. It was a fairly fluid and long evening and the man did overindulge. When the majority of the guests had left and only the really tough were still there, it seemed that he had designs on a lady so stayed to show off. Unfortunately it all got too much for him and he had to make a call on the big white telephone. Apparently the noise from the loo was unmistakably him, a sort of wailing groan (then a big splash), such a distinctive voice.

I have always put Astral Weeks in a pile with Nick Drake’s Pink Moon.
I think this is due to an old acquaintance of ours playing either or both non-stop for about twelve years.
Saying yeah, way out and cool a lot!
Proper old middle-class hippy.

I saw him play live once. Even though Ms 747 is the fan not me I will say he was brilliant. But he said a total of four words:

“Thanks to ( name of support band which I’ve forgotten)” at the start.

And “ Thankyou” at the end. He was good though.

Me pal Mez is currently his drummer.

Seems a pretty sweet gig- travels the world in comfort, not a particularly punishing schedule, they get the days off to explore the town they are playing in that night.

He also tours with madness doing percussion, and that seems a bit more high jinx, but again all pretty wholesome pleasant stuff

He's always been a miserable fucker (although I love his music). Remember seeing him once in a pub in Bath (The Crystal Palace) drinking miserably on his own :D

I used to know someone who roadied for him. Said he's not just a spectacularly miserable bastard with the crew, but even refuses to socialise with the band after the gig.

I still love Astral Weeks, though.

What a poet;

“As I Walked Out” references some social media disinformation about the severity of COVID-19: “Well, on the government website from the 21st March 2020/ It said COVID-19 was no longer high risk/ Then two days later/ They put us under lockdown.”

does he sing it over the riff for Gloria?

Stupid fucker - and at his age and - i understand - a serious drinker and smoker - he's a prime candidate for coming a cropper in the bat flu department.
