V Festival: rip-off-tastic

Interesting contrast with the festy I was at this weekend - Secret Garden. While, I have to say, V had much better bands, SG had no corporate sponsorship, fun atmosphere, fancy dress and much more silliness. So a better deal, overall.
All depends on what you want out of a festival, innit? :)

Some people think a festival is a bunch of pop bands in a field with crap lager. Most of us know better, though :)

Only if you pay to see them.

Girls Aloud are a fucking crime against music

Why? Because they aren't clever or bleepy or underground for you?

Have you actually ever listened to the pop goodness that is GA or are you a musical snob that has probably written off pop music as a whole genre?

Even I like GA.

he's named after a mediocre song by an over-rated pop-metal band. His opinion is therefore virtually irrelevant

i went to V in Staffordshire and it was the bollox!
i camped all weekend, and it rained all day saturday, i brought a camping stove and cooked breakfast each morning, i didnt need any other food as i was no longer hungry after that.
there was no problem getting water into the venue, and there were water pumps all round the site.

the other campers were so friendly

we are scientists, the feeling and groove armada were probably the best over the weekend
and radiohead were great

it's simple if you want top pay top money for food, do, if you don't bring your own.

we decanted all our spirits into plastic bottles and the staff didn't care if we brought it into the site, and to be honest paying 3 quid (not much more than i pay in my local anyway) for a really cold beer rather than one that was luke warm in an icebox was worth the "extravagance"

i didnt see girls aloud 'cos they were on at the same time as we are scientists

anyway fuck you all i had a ball
:D :D

We know it's a bunch of ageing rockers in a field with good cider

V's just up the road from me and I've never had the urge to go. All I've heard is bad reports from it since it started.
Still, horses for courses I suppose. Shame it gives people a twisted view of what a 'festival' is though :)

Yeah, the annoying thing is it makes all these 'pop pickers' want to go to Glastonbury (especially since people like us tell them to go to a real festival), causing enormous pressure on tickets. Then they all turn up, half love it and the other half moan it's shite and they'll never be back... :D

so what did GA do to fuck up their set, then?
Opened their mouths probably

GA are great but their voices aren't the best and are probably not suited to proper live performances

Branson Pickle Corporate Beard Experience (TM)

i've been twice ... neither time on full weekend camping thank fuck.

Utterly hated it both times.

The only reason I went the second time (2000) was to see Massive Attack who were excellent.

Never nver never never ever again ....

 :( :(

I like GA. Shame I missed them on tv.

My first festival was V97. Even then I didn't expect to be herded out of the festival part and into the campsite as soon as the bands finished.

I vote for wacken (german metal festival). I went to that most recently (like, 2 years ago now). Fabulous time.
