Using 'street' talk in the workplace?

sorry but this thread just makes me think of those bank ads where grey-suited men say unconvincingly "we have been mashing up some tunes and hope you can too, I do and so does my wife margery .... babadoooftshhh tshhh" and do some very angular dancing.

"cool" is not street language any more. (Not since about 1975 surely?)

Basically: if your colleagues can't understand what you are on about it's stupid. If you're a nurse it could be dangerous! Otherwise it's just a bit cringey...

(although the thought of referring to my boss as "chief" to his face and getting away with it seems appealing.)

I work in a spnish speaking country, my spanish is pretty good, and I understand virtually everything that is said to me at work - Apart from one young guy who speaks pure slang, to the point that the spanish speaking workers have to ask him to explain in 'normal' langage what he is talking about. It makes communication such a pain in the arse. A literal translation of his 'Goodbye' is 'he sends an egg man, I go looking for the patriotic tin'. I suppose it's good because if I get to a point where I understand all his slang, I can understand anyone.

I spoke to my gran this morning. its her 70th birthday. when asked what she was going to do today, she said

"this morning I am just going to chill out"

:D
