I suppose if you dry it you're just releasing the moisture back into the environment, which kind of defeats the object of using salt to absorb it in the first place...

We use the big white lumpy things you buy from camping and DIY shops, and they work fine. Maybe they are silica, who knows?

I always used to get mine from Wilkos it's dirt cheap to get a big tub of the stuff sold as a refill, not as cheap as salt but I think its more effective.
