nah, apparently not. we've had different answers every time we've called.

anyway - it's sorted, he rang up and an arrangement has been made which will see it resolved next week, although it's going to involve some skullduggery i can't go into here

You're going to change your name to his?

thanks for that vote of confidence :p

we haven't BOUGHT the van. we agreed to buy the van, pending the provision of the paperwork etc.

When we have the logbook, we'll buy the van.

You don't actually need the V5 to buy a car, unless this has changed recently?

I know for a fact that I have both bought and sold a car without the form, and then got a replacement one later on.

Doesn't the V5, or its accompanying leaflet, make a point of saying that the V5 is not proof of ownership?

Giles..

So... pardon me for being stupid, you checked the logbook and said you'd buy the van, but didn't get as far as handing over money and getting the slip from the bottom of the logbook?

I think if you buy your tax disc at the Post Office and not online you only need a valid MOT certificate and an insurance cover note. I did this last year as I had lost my V5. He could forge your signature on the V5 and send it to Swansea from Oz.
