USB Wireless Issues with System Standby

This may be of help to somebody ...

I have a wireless setup around a Netgear DG834G router. All machines connect fine, except one containing a Belkin USB wireless card (which is compatable with the router). Basically it keeps losing connection.

Everything on the wireless set up is fine, and signal strength is good etc. Basically I whittled down the problem to the fact that whenever the client machine goes into Standby Mode, the USB port is shut down, and cannot reconnect afterwards. In order to reconnect, I had to select a repair action (the card is under windows control, rather than the Belkin software which is too flakey).

To prevent having to do a repair action everytime you log on after standby, do the following...

* Right-click My Computer and select Properties (or open control panel System).
* Click tab Hardware, click button Device Manager.
o Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
o Double-click USB Root Hub (or right-click it and select Properties).
+ Click tab Power Management.
+ Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
+ Click OK to exit USB Root Hub Properties.
o Click the red cross to close Device Manager.
* Click OK to close System Properties.

Tested over a three day period, without losing connection.
