Yeah, I was just coming back to the thread to say that a lot of searches suggest 11s as Bekele's time for his final 100m. After 10 km of running!

E.g. this

Ha ha, nice!

Talking about amazinbg achievements over 10k...Britians Alistair Brownlee running a sub 30 minute 10k at the end of the Hyde Park Tri is a pretty amazing effort I'd say.

ETA...not sure I entirely agree with the premise of the article though...but that is beside the point.

I reckon bolt would woop his arse over 400m as its a proper sprint. 800m would be well intresting. One lap of fairly fast jog followed by a near full lap of sprint.

I think you're right, although 400m isn't really a proper sprint -- it's more like 11-12s per 100m. If Bolt had a 4s head start, though, he'd win with ease I think.

800m with an 8s head start? I'd probably give it to Bekele, though it would be close.

400m is still classed as a sprint. Bolt would win over 400m I think, tipping point around 600m?

800m no question in my mind, Bekele all the way. Obiouvsly we are assuming that Bolt would have the endurance/aerobic fitness to be able to repeat those 100m over and over again, he wouldn't but it's interesting...

no head start on 400 and i reckon he would win comfortably. 800m if bolt has the stamina and trained for 6 months i reckon it would be danm close without a head start. 8 seconds your talking about giving him 75m head start i dont reckon bakele would catch him.

Din't bolt used to run the 400m? swear i have seen him run a full lap. relay?

45.92 jogged the last 30m!!!!

Hmm not sure even after 6 months. Again head to head over 800m, ceratinly 1500m I reckon most good standard endurance club runners would beat Bolt at the moment, and probably even after 6 months of training. He just doesn't have the core aerobic base (he doesn't need it) - which is why he can eat chicken nuggets and not worry too much :)

oh 1500m no doubt go with bakele 800m is very in the middle though.

that mcmilan clauclator thingy reckons bolt would run 800 in 1.41 based off his 400m time in that video.

bolt would win a 400m race no problem whatsoever,

his pb is world class (45.28, set in 2007)

I'd go as far to say, he'll probably beat the world record in a few years time

(he has said that in a year with no major championships he's gonna see if he can do it)

next bloke was no where near him so he eased off. Who knows if he would have if it was closer.

Still a danm good time.

I don't think that Bolt would run the 800m in 1:41.

The 800m is an unusual distance, mind you. It's pretty brutal.

No there is no chance at all. That Mcmillan calculator does not really work for comparing between sprint, middle distance and long distance events...just htought it was interesting to post.

That calculator is just too basic, it takes one distance and multiplys it, doesn't take into account fatigue over the distance or indeed speed through a bends. Saying Bolt runs 100m is X, doesn't mean he'll run 400m in 4x X

it takes one distance and multiplys it

No it doesn't far from it in fact and many coaches use Mcmillans calculator to work out training paces based on performance. They are estimates of running performance which take into account various factors. I find it proetty accurate for the distances I run, I am not a trakc runner though and suspect the margins of error are very tight in sprint races.

Yeah, it's failure is only one of trying to convert sprints ==> "3/4 pace" ==> middle distance. And you can hardly blame it for that, because these things are basically impossible to second guess.
