US to use robot soldiers in Iraq

Everyone recognises Hammerstein of the abc warriors you philistine.

"During the mission, Hammerstein met and became close to a human female, Terri. She had mistaken him for Craig, the father of her baby, and became equally infatuated with the ageing warrior; without the proper modifications, however, Hammerstein had no way to return her affections."

Jamming from multiple source, of course, is much harder to track back...

The last one is a facetious reference to http://www.urban75.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=172689 - if they were stupid enough to do the crime, they'd probably be stupid enough to take the robot along
"hey, Scooter here needs some R&R, let's take 'im along..."
I got it the first time ;)

I think that sort of jammer tech is outside the scope of insurgents. It's not standard bits of kit nor would it be easy to operate. These things are never going to recreate the opening scenes of gladiator, but for trudling over hilly terrain to clear isolated positions they'd be excellent.

If I were an insurgent facing these things, I'd be extremely pissed off. Being killed by something that doesn't die. I'd probably see it as new low in the dehumanisation of warfare and regard American soldiers as cowardly.

And hook it up to your own radio system?
There's probably some sort of disabler/destruct button to prevent that.

Nope, just nick the gun and mount from it. If they are the same things that were being talked about a while back they're equiped with very accurate heavy calibre weapons. Your friendly sniper's wet dream.

Its the robot activists of the three main political parties in this country people should be worried about. No that is an insult to robots.

"Mr Quinn says there are plans to replace the computer screen, joysticks and keypad in the remote-control unit with a Gameboy-style controller and virtual-reality goggles."

I think this says all you need to know about the US mindset when it comes to war :(

Of course. What else do you expect from a nation where
war is sold as a game on TV screens,
"shock and awe" is a line taken as seriously meaning only "shock" and "awe" with no bloodshed and murdering of people involved
the actor of movies like The Terminator becomes governor an other actor was president
the level of delusionalism in current government circles has crossed the line of what is called "sanity" for a lunatic?

... to name some

That wouldn't be a new element. The US *are* already called cowards.

salaam.

Good idea, given the inability of the US armed forces to produce decent quality soldiers who don't blow the shit out of their allies on an alarmingly regular basis, whilst high on amphetamines and the bible.

The ragheads will continue using AKs and flip-flops.

There are a lot of sensory limitations though, can it hear? does the video camera only point forward? If a person is controlling it just by sitting in front of a monitor with no sound and only a forward view, then I think they could be taken out really easily in an urban environment, just sneak up on it's blind side, would not even need to worry about noise.

If they intergrate the robots sensory array with a full virtual reality control mechanism, so when the controller turns his head the camera turns, when the controller moves his arm the main weapon moves, what the robot hears he hears, when the controller walks on the spot the machine moves with a voice command 'forward, back' etc when he runs the robot moves faster... then than would be really creepy.. I think it is the shape of things to come. And it is going to line the pockets of quite a few US companies in the process.
