Dunno if it's been mentioned on any Right-Wing US threads, but figured this worrying trend deserves a thread of its own.
Out of the whole 'Don't Say Gay' Bills unpleasantness is coming a wave of claims that talking to kids about homosexuality amounts to 'grooming' - tying in, I guess, with QAnon lunacy about how the Libs are All Paedos (see good post here: Child Brides and the "Grooming" Lie ) and also building on the anti-trans hysteria that talking about gender roles an the general existence of trans people is a sinister plot to confuse children so much that they no longer have any sexual boundaries or some shit. It does seem like a move backwards from when at least a fair number of more conservative types were 'I don't understand this stuff but each to their own', back to 'Keep these people away from our children!'
Commentators I've seen on Twitter have pointed us this is a great way of trying to keep apart young LGBTQ+ people from elders in the community, creating a for those elders a fear of a metaphorical or quite possibly literal lynch mob, and making it harder for queer young people to find safe havens.
I don't know if the 'Gay is Grooming' crowd is really just a small fringe of nutters or is a serious threat, but it does look like they have support in government from some GOP members, which would indicate the latter.
I do genuinely fear now that we are going to see murders of LGBTQ community leaders/youth workers by armed fuckwits 'protecting children from paedophiles'.
