US Election Night in London

Given that the USA are anything from five to eight hours behind the UK and even OUR elections aren't usually wrapped up until the early hours, there's no way I'm going to go and sit in a bar paying money to watch a TV and waiting for each state to declare results for hours on end.

Myself, I shall be mostly watching Sky/BBC/Fox News etc at home with beers, snacks and my bed close by. Seems the logical choice.

I was in the US when Clinton first got elected. The news came on and said, " bing bong, the polls have closed, Clinton has won by x%, more after the adverts".

electronic voting, they don't get anything like the same tension or fun we do.

I'm a bit bored of AJDown's remarkable, conveniently weird logic. If he's to be believed he's a bloke who gets on the same buses as here in Brixton, yet rarely sees a white face or hears English spoken. He's alarmed by, and won't eat Halal meat, but won't give a reason why. In AJ's world it's cyclists who cause the bulk of accidents and traffic hold-ups with their dangerous weaving in and out maneuvers. And so on.

This is however, another cracker - people are only going to vote in Obama because he's black. Query this remarkable claim and AJ's will backtrack, claiming no interest in politics, which begs the question why make the sneering, stupid assertion in the first place? There's a point when you wonder if AJ's using idiocy for effect, or if he's just a really unpleasantly stupid bigot.
:hmm:

You don't need to understand it, you just need to accept that I have as much right to be here as you do, and if you don't like what I have to say, why not just ignore it instead?

Unfortunately 'showing an interest in politics' tends to make people think of the pathetic anti-capitalist anarchists that rage against the system, forgetting that if it wasn't the benefits system or daddy's trust fund, they'd actually have to work for a living and wouldn't have time to get involved.

I have explained everything numerous times, if you're too stupid to understand then it's not my fault really is it?

Bless. Somebody who's claiming that people are only voting for Obama because he's black is calling me stupid. It's like being savaged by Jimmy Krankie
.
Loved the tired old anarchist rant mind, as if that logically followed or held any relevance to the discussion at all. Another winning bit of AJ logic there, not at all the repetitive nonsensical whines of an unpleasantly blinkered moron.

This is the same AJDown that slagged off everyone involved in the drinking ban revelries yet felt compelled to spend his Saturday evening travelling over to the very same place in order to 'watch' what was happening, if not participate.

Weird.

There's no harm in watching idiots making idiots of themselves by trying to make a point they cannot win. Plus, it was a facebook arranged meeting. They always fail. I predicted before it even started that it would turn nasty and get totally out of hand, and was totally right. It's what happens when you get a bunch of people together with copious amounts of alcohol.

I'm not sure that getting on one bus for a short journey to, and one bus for a short journey from, a particular location on a particular time when I had nothing else that needed doing is really such a huge deal, do you?

Good find, cheers.

Are they starting the night with a homo-cowboy romp in order to empty the pub of republicans?

Do you know what time this place is open until?

Republicans? In Camberwell? Surely some mistake

I think the pub is normally open to midnight but I am informed by a friend who knows the landlord that he is expecting to carry on through the night until everythings completed/ all the customers have gone home

On a Saturday night?

I'd rather be out socialising than making an effort to go and 'observe' people that I have publicly expressed a distaste for. You sound just like those fuckers who slow down on the motorway at the scene of accidents in order to cop a decent view of the grizzly aftermath.

I don't go out 'socialising' like most here do, because I find sitting in a noisy crowded pub incredibly tedious, not to mention paying through the nose for drinks.

But hanging around a packed railway station in order to witness inebriated teenagers smash the place up is somehow less noisy than enjoying a few drinks with friends in a lively bar?

Weird.

I did. Went to a meedja party at the Frontline Club and met Naomi Wolf.

oooh, get you! :)

I went to the Chicago Rib Shack party which was great fun - amazing atmosphere when the results came through. I only meant to stay until 2am but was still there at 5.30am for the acceptances speech. When they called it at 4am everyone went nuts, it was surprisingly emotional.
