Urgh Pesto

Fresh pesto is lovely but the stuff in jars is nasty imo, way too bitter. I like pizza with a few little blobs of fresh pesto blobbed onto it. And a few black olives sprinkled on. Never had anchovies.

I've recently started buying some Goodfellas Pizzeria pizzas with pesto and mozarella pearls and I'm not usually a fan of frozen pizzas, but they are lush. I normally put some chorizo and black olives on as well. I've had two this week. :o

TBH though I can't really taste the pesto on them.

Pesto is lovely: with pasta, on pizza, in sarnies, any which way.

Try pasta with pesto and creme fraiche, it's lush. (obviously not if you don't like pesto in the first place).

i am eating a marmite and pesto toastie as i type

I like Pesto a lot, but that doesn't sound so good... :D

Pesto's great with pasta, obviously. I also stick it in some risottos, depending on what else I'm putting in, and sometimes use a little of it to flavour veggie stews.

but you can't tell me that pine nuts, basil, garlic, pecorino, olive oil and pepper is a bad thing.

I have a severe aversion to garlic, I'm not overly keen on pine nuts and I honestly dont know what pecorino is :hmm:

So pesto is made of fail imo :p

Pesto is gorgeous. I smear it on toast and eat it. I put it in mashed tatie and eat it by the bucket load. However if it is nasty pesto it just tastes rank.

One of the best one's is the posh looking one you get at Aldi's. Looks like it should cost about £5 a jar but is only about £2 and is slightly crunchy from the pine nuts

Pecorino is lovely Italian cheese made from sheep's milk. Comes in different types. Pecorino Romano is like Parmesan, but much nicer.

I don't mind a small amount on pasta but some people seem to think it should coat food like...well, peanut butter, or something.

You wouldn't seriously ruin mash's glorious creamy simplicity by putting pesto in it, surely?

This is madness.

I think perhaps that its a bit variable, I'm sure I must;ve eaten it and its enhanced food, but I;ve also got strong memories of it completely ruining several meals.

I recently stopped smoking (most of the time) so maybe my tastebuds are a little sensitive.

I love it. Spaghetti tossed in pesto and black olives is one of my all time favourite meals.

Is this a London thing?? Or just I never buy pizza from a takeaway thing?

Doubt it - I've noticed a recent tendancy in takeaways to slather all sorts of things with pesto.

Most recently a curry & Thai noodles - Maybe the chips, cheese & whatever crowd are becoming jaded?

I tried making pesto a few times but it never tasted right. Don't know if he olive oil i used was good enough although it was extra virgin but it was a cheap one. Used to taste better the longer i left it. Got some posh olive oil atm so i might try it again.

I used to really like pesto, but I think the nasty shop versions have spoilt it for me now.

I sometimes make salsa prezzemolo which is:

loads of flat-leaved parsley
lemon juice
garlic
olive oil
anchovies

all whizzed up in the blender - good on chicken, pasta, as a dip for raw veg, on lots of things.
