Urban75 Guide to Skiving

I once spent an entire morning walking around a factory floor, nursing a huge hangover, carrying a spanner, a pen and a notebook in hands I'd made oily before everyone else started.
At the last place I worked I could disappear into the warehouse with some paperwork and spend an hour or so looking like I was checking a project. The warehouse at my current place is tiny in comparison, so that doesn't really work here

Instead I currently have a load of drawings open on my desk while I spend the morning pissing around on here

more variations on the "go for a walk with a prop" skive.

On larger building sites taking a shovel for a walk is a pleasant way to waste 15 minutes.

When i worked at a university library i used to take the book trolley for a walk, taking it to several different floors. Id make sure it had a couple of interesting books on it that i could then peruse in a quiet corner.

another one on building sites is to try and get a job up several ladders and out of site - rooftops a good un for this - take a carefully concealed book/newspaper - or even better - a like minded colleague and a deck of cards. you are unlikely to be disturbed and have plenty of warning if a nosey chargehand wants to pay a visit.
Large office buildings also sometime offer places to disappear to - often up several stories and offering pleasing vistas of the your locale.

with more autonomous roles you have the considerable skive potential of "working from home" and invented meetings - or meetings which are actually going for a coffee with a mate who is doing the same at their workplace.

In my last job in the civil service, I had a small case load, which involved sitting at a desk in the main office for much of the time, but I also had managerial responsibility for filing, stocks, the typing pool (yes, it was a long time ago), switchboard and the post room. I could legitimately be in any one of 6 rooms in the building, so nobody had any idea whether my absence from one of them meant I was skiving or not.
