Urban75 Album of the Year 1984

I'm in a cafe in Dun Laoghaire that's playing Hatful of Hollow over the PA system. And boy is it rubbish. How were so many idiots (including myself) convinced that Morrisey was some sort of intellectual poet provocateur with unique insights into the human condition of the 1980s? I want to find my younger self and kick him down the stairs.
But now we're on to Dusty and her preacher's boy. Far more agreeable.

. . . And it's got some shitter versions of the 'hits'.
I sold my copy for the stoopid money some of these records go for now.

Well, it's just as well that it's a compilation so you couldn't vote for it so you don't now have to go back and retrospectively change any vote you might potentially have cast for it. Still doesn't explain why none of you bloody philistines voted for Lloyd Cole or GISM though.

I'm not sure about everything thst came out in 84.

I do have . . .

Welcome to the pleasuredome
The Works
Lament
World Shut Your Mouth
Treasure

I would say world shut your mouth is winning for me right now as I listen to that one the most.

83 and 85 86 were the more spicey years for my record collection as I recall.

Welcome to the Pleasure Dome may well be better than The Smiths one
It's a weird one. Pointlessly double LP with all the silly cover versions (which are actually OK but lessen the status of the group/LP). The band had some decent unreleased stuff from that period (as heard in earlier peel sessions). Could have just made a solid LP and left born to run, San Jose and the silly stuff for B sides. It was very 80s though, like that Sigue Sigue Sputnik LP with all the adverts.

I like their version of Born to Run.
