Urban75 Album of the Year 1961

I guess it's music from a time before the big youth movements and probably feels especially old.
Probably, my sisters were into Buddy Holly, The Beatles and Stones. Our parents hated all that kids stuff. All sounds the same they said, some things never change.
Mind you my dad would have been 109 this year and mum 102!!!

i think in the 40s a lot of teens were either fighting a war or were contributing to the war at home, so there wasn't much breeding ground for counter youth culture. tbh, talking big bands etc, it might have sounded revolutionary at the time, but politically it strikes me as very conservative and patriotic, again because of an ongoing war...

Rock and roll must have been especially alienating. Combination of the new, the electric and the teenage element with sexual frisson.

Hopefully something I wouldn’t want our teens to find out.
