Urban quote used against me in disciplinary!!

well frankly your local authority that you work for SUCKS

if that was me i'd be fucking fuming, how DARE they, if there was any kind of legal recourse, i.e. invasion of fucking privacy,.. i'd do them.

jesus christ how bloody wrong is that... who pays the wages of the person that sits at the computer looking for employee internet posts?? the taxes from us?? GRRRRRRRRRRRR

message to the person that reported it and to the authority that sanctions it:

how DARE you. sounds to me like someone's up their own arse...or multiple people. wankers.

It sounds like invasion of privacy to me too. I think you need to talk to your union rep and get some legal advice. Good luck.

I had to beg to be able to run my own fucking business (which I do in the evenings, when I'm not here). And I'm only part-time in my day-job anyway. And it is the polar opposite of my day job.

I wouldn't go on Urban at work though, it's generally pretty safe to assume your internet usage is being monitored pretty closely...

How on earth is posting up something said on a bulletin board invasion of privacy?

If DJ Biggas employers ban all private communication during work time, then they have a point.
But if they don't and he/she communicated under a pseuodonym on a bulletin board,he/had surely has had their privacy violated.

The employer may feel that he/she abused their position but a feeling is not quite enough for disciplinary action.

Ok just to clear a few things up.

I wasn't posting on urban at work it was in my own time. The long and short of it is. The manager found out my DJ name somehow and decided to do a bit of google type detective work and came up with these boards.
I have been to my union about it (I'm a convenor) and a grievance has been submitted.
This is all part of a wider campaign against me at work for various reasons including my union activities, being black and being classed under the DDA as having a disability.
Sorry I can't go into more detail. Perhaps after the tribunal.

Please, i'm being a bit slow here evidently because i'm not sure how something put up in a public place by person A and then found by someone (person B) who knows person A is a violation of privacy?

Good luck DJ.

Searching for my real name will only bring up posts on tech forums related to my work, which is pretty  and also very lucky, as I didn't plan it that way!

And also a Yoga book review on Amazon... LOL!

And rather surprisingly a photo of my father on flickr... how amazing (wasn't very close to him, and he died a few years ago)... Feel a bit wobbly now!!!! I think having a very unusual name has it advantages after all...

And DJ Bigga, your manager seems to be a twat, hope you get it sorted!!!

Fookin' hell, wouldn't have found a photo of my father if it wasn't for this thread... What are the chances of that happening???

Yeah, when I wanted advice about work from here, I created a new account to do it with that was totally anonymous. Got to be careful with stuff like that, remember that woman in the US who got fired because she blogged about her work...

ooh i just got a bit worried and googled my name. forgetting that i have a famous namesake, so it was only her who turned up in the search :)

Yeah, I think it's becoming more common for employers to google their employees, so I would always register on a forum under an internet handle unrelated to any other name I might use in real life.

Also it's not a good idea to use yr email username either. A mate of mine once got some funny emails, so I googled his email username, and all this personal info about himself - and I mean really personal - turned up, along with his email addy.

Hope it gets sorted out DJ, mate. btw - I used to live West of the wood of Nor too. Great place. Used to go in the Hope - no idea what it's like now.

Good Luck with the tribunal DJ.
I hope it all get's sorted out for you-sounds like you're having a tough time of it at the moment. :(

I've just "googled" my real name and the only thing about me that comes up is the work website- With pictures  :o

I don't EVER want to play that game again! :(

Your manager won't have been able to view any of your posts without registering with U75. Which means they're either an active poster or lurker here!

lessava callout thread!! :D

if you search my real name, loads of shit from another messageboard comes up, where people knew my actual name.

i'm actually pretty worried about it, if a future employer googles me i'm fucked.

Is there no chance of e-mailing the admin and asking him/her to remove your posts or at least change the user name to protect you?

Their legal bod probably took one look at the hokum they were trying on you and told them it wouldn't fly.

Nice result!

Thanks everyone, I think the next time they want to stick one on a convenor they won't just print their entire case off the interweb!
