Urban meet up - Small Nations Festival, Cilycwm

Snorkelboy

A fish is not just 4 xmas
I see from the plans for the summer thread a few U75ers are planning to go next weekend.

Shall we have an urban meetup at some point?

Me and mr moose, in a very shiny pea green and white VW campervan.

Haven't decided which phone I'm taking, so can't pm number, but I have Col Buendia's.

Looking forward to it immensely

Might just do a link to this on the music forum - we're not all from Wales, you know :D

Well, that was nearly a Good Plan, till I realised I had no phone reception and couldn't ring anyone to arrange to meet up.
We loitered round the samba group, placing bets on which of the on-lookers was Snorkelboy, but all our likely candidates got up and walked off without a backwards glance.
Anyway, we'll be back next year, cos it was bloody great. I even did the Welsh in an Hour lesson, so I can now ask Welsh people 'Oes eliffant gyda ti?'.

Yep, pretty non-existent mobile coverage... didn't think of that when we thought of the meet! Mind you, it's always good to have a ready-made excuse... ;)

Brilliant weekend, really enjoyed all the music we saw, Steintryggur who played on Sun after missing their slot on Sat night were awesome. Cardiff rockers The Strand were pretty excellent, Ember were folk-tastic, Nuru Kane was mesmerising... too many to list.

Shame about the soaking we got on Saturday night though :(

:D

Well we saw exactly the same bands, so I was probably standing next to you all weekend :D Did you have a ginger monkey? :D :D

Those funky Icelanders were excellent - happily, I'm seeing them again in Whitby in October.

Yeah - shame about the meet up. I did see a couple of green and white campervans, but both unnoccupied when i was in the car park.

My other half's Samba band weren't actually performing this year - I got the wrong end of the stick. A couple of them did a workshop though.

I thought Ember were brilliant. I was a bit dissapointed with Nguru Kane, whihc is a shame as I like a lot of Senegalese music and was really loooking forward to it. The zimbabwean band on sunday were pretty good too.

That monkey seller is going straght to hell for those little whistle things.

Heh heh... the bloke on the curry stall was cursing the monkey seller as well... there was a woman with a little girl in front of us on Sun morning, and the "little angel" was having a great time feeding her monkey from the big salad bowl on the front of the stall. The guy was fairly good-natured about it all, but as soon as they left, he started muttering about beating the monkey-seller to death :D

Ember were astounding - but did you not think the American woman on the guitar looked like the spitting image of Meryl Streep? I was slightly besotted by the end of the set! :D

Yes - i know exactly what you mean. The other frontwoman was very funny too - great bit of banter. I bought the CD and its great. Gutted I missed them at Gower folk festival (its only 10 mins drive from my house):(

I loved the monkeys (we brought a baboon for my son) - it was the little whistles that did my head in.
