Urban Come Dine With Me

I'd do:

Starters
Slices of home-made pork pie with picallilli pots
Roasted red pepper and tomato terrine (v)

Main
Slow roast shoulder of lamb marinated with rosemary, garlic and anchovy
Caremalised onion tart (v)
Pommes boulangere
Roasted balsamic tomatoes

Pudding
Chocolate profiteroles
Ice cream

Starter:

Crispy Breaded Musrooms with Home made Tartare sauce and rocket salad

Main Coure:

Hungarian Vadas with bread dumplings (Vadas is slow pot roasted beef with a sauce made from parsnips, carrots, onions, sugar, sour cream, vinegar and mustard).

Pudding:

Profiterols
Chestnut and Rum Puree

Ooh ooh. This is fun.

Starter: Seared scallops in garlic butter.
Main: King prawn risotto with lobster sauce.
Pudding: Chocolate pots.

This is my class A seduction menu.

Or for main poached chicken with tarragon. Hmmm.

Obviously, this is my 'I just got paid' menu.

I had friends round on Sat for dinner. We had a 3-bird roast (turkey/duck/chicken and stuffing) roasties done in goose fat, and dauphinoise .Also mixed veg and gravy. We followed up with home made choc cake and ice-cream, and later on we had a cheese board to soak up the copious gallons of wine. Entertainment was them bragging and showing pics of their recent 3 weeks in Brazil, the swine. :D

Butternut squash soup to start

Chilli prawn taglliatelle as a main course. For the vegetarian guest, I would serve my ciabatta bread pizza with goats cheese, baby plum tomatoes marinaded in olive oil, chilli & balsamic vinegar, black olives and toasted pine nuts.

I've never really made a desert before, I'd probably try my hand at a chocolate mousse.

cherry tomato and leek soup with a grilled haloumi pitta to accompany..

homemade leek and celery sausages on a bed of rocket and basil dressed with balsam, olive oil and lemon with a dollop of houmous to the side

my classic sticky stodgy choco fudge cake with homeade vanilla custard...

oooh!

I have two school friends coming for dinner on Saturday. They're not urbanites, but I'll give 'em some good grub anyway. :)

I am thinking:

1) mixed romaine salad with cukes, grape tomatoes, clementines, seaweed flakes, and maybe some pecans in a balsamic vinaigrette

2) seared yellowfin tuna with sauteed onion and garlic seasoned with basil and chili pepper with a side of thyme-spiked rice

3) Greek yogurt with fruit AND the evening's experimental dessert:

banana/chocolate/teff pudding

mmm

wine: pinot gris

I think I might have to do some wilted chard or brussel sprouts on the side too.

yum.

Bubbly while we wait for the food to finish off.

Starter: Mussels in white wine and garlic sauce.

Main: Slow roasted leg of lamb with goose fat potatoes and seasonal veg.

Afters: Home made strawberry cheese cake.

Loads of lovely wine & after dinner smokes. ;)

they'd have to be non veggies:p :

starter:
escargot with lots of red wine, butter and garlic, and some sourdough bread to mop up the buttery, garlicy winey goodness.

main course:
Beef Bourguignon or Veal Marsala, served over egg noodles, with some grilled veg.

pudding:
creme caramel
or a really good bread pudding.

different cheeses and lots of wine.

or...

lots of different Mexican dishes.

I wouldn't eat escargot or veal and I'm not a veggie.

You can get ethically produced veal these days, and if you drink milk and eat cheese then veal is the natural bi-product, imho.

I'm very unoriginal here but I think I would do:

Starter:
A sweet potato and butternut squash soup

Main:
Slow roasted spiced lamb shanks with an olive oil mash

Dessert:
Individual lemon trifles

Kanda said:
Starter: Prawn Cocktail in a knickerbockerglory type glass
Main: Ribeye Steaks with homemade wedges, onion rings, mushrooms etc
Desert: Mint Vienetta

Ditch the starter and you've got a date, pal!

I still wouldn't eat it.

Had veal accidentally in Barcelona once, thought it was fucking awful.

I'd not be too impressed if someone served veal with no alternative, ethically produced or not.

Why not. You've almost certainly been served up intensively produced chicken and pork nastiness in the past - the veal calf could have lived a much happier life than either. If you're going to consume dairy products then you may as well accept the reality of its production - it's better as veal than waste.

Still, surprised that you have had such a strong reaction to veal. If anything it's too inoffensive and bland a meat. Needs careful cooking admittedly, or it goes fry, but it's far from disagreeable to most.

starters: cup of coffee or apple and blackcurrant juice
Mains: marmite a la toast
Deserts: ciggies : amber leaf or golden virginia
