they aren't - I questioned him this morning :(

can't you force him to include them . He must have written a list somewhere when he was doing all his calculating and it would be quite easy for you to sneak them on !

I'm gutted Linkin Park aren't on there but I understand it's a niche hate.

I forgot them.

Truly, truly deserving of a "SHITE!" badge. Few more so in recent years, I reckon.

People, people.

Ceiling Dion is crap, but she's not 'In yer face' crap - If you don't like her, just ignore her, an option that is sadly not availble for true shitcunts like Bono and Robbie Williams. You can't get away from their smug self-satisified cunty little faces no matter how hard you try - That makes them exponentially more hateable.

I voted for RW. I do hate him most of all, but If I'd have known that it was going to be a CD vs U2 two horse race I would have but my cross next to U2.

That was a toughie. I was torn between Dion, Dido and Coldplay. In the end I went for the one that makes me start ranting about how shit she it. Dido - you have been voted for.

if people feel particularly strongly about one or other of the acts up for condemnation, feel free to start your own campaign thread explaining in gory detail why they deserve your vote..

this could turn into a many-headed hydra of a ballot

Can we start a gang please? :)

One that hunts down and kills every last one of them?

I used the suggested seeding system (most votes in column one, 2nd in column 2, 3 in column 3 and back the other way, so 4th most in column 3 again) etc...

Each heat will be up for 48 hours (this is controlled by the poll settings) - this one will close at midnight on Tuesday

So.. off we go :)

(oh, and for the record the actual top ten by votes cast was

  1. U2
  2. Oasis
  3. Red Hot Chili Peppers
  4. Phil Collins
  5. Simply Red
  6. Coldplay.
  7. James Blunt
  8. Beatles
  9. Mariah Carey
  10. westlife

with only U2 and Oasis earning more than 20 nominations and only U2 with more than 30. I'm very proud of you all :)
Can I ask why you chose the system you did, instead of the seemingly much simpler actual top ten by votes cast ?

It's a pity that the polls on here can't be worked on an STV basis, where you get a 1st vote, 2nd vote and 3rd vote and the respective counts would allow more than one vote, better to ascertain the gradient of hate per 'artiste'.

because people suggested it was a good idea, and it's what has happened before on various multi-nomination threads.

Out of that lot it was a close run thing between The Smiths and REM but Johnny Marr just kept Morrisey out of the gun sights.

I can ignore most of the rest and my innate pedancy dictates that I can't vote for a solo artist on a thread entitled Most Hated Band. ;)

fuck..that was a hard choice..In fact it was the Poll Of Death. U2, REM and The Smiths all in one though Celine, Cliff etc don't bother me as they're not really part of my world.

Totally agree. I think Celine Dion should be left off these polls in the future...she's hogging all the precious hatred. Firstly, she's not even a band/touring artist. Secondly, I can't speak for UK radio/TV, but the last time we heard/saw anything of Dion here in North America, it was when that "boat sinks" movie came out. These days, to enjoy the fruits of Celine's mouth, one must make a full commitment by flying to Vegas, and paying dearly to see her at a dinner theatre. I mean, who's next for these polls? Wayne fuckin' Newton?

Dub, I understand it's just the first heat, but a few days ago you were on a fucking rampage, re: The Beatles (was that you?). Could they not have filled in for the surrogate-father fucker/can't-even-get-arrested-in-Quebec-anymore Celine, just to mix it up a bit?

Anyway, for my vote...U2 was awfully tempting, but I just had to go with Robbie Williams. It's a hatred I can really savour: ex-UK boy band member makes it huge at home, moves on across the pond to "conquer America", and finds - sadly - not a single person gives a fuck. The only way he'll be moving any units over here is by visiting George Michael's favorite public toilet in Los Angeles. (And even then, people still wouldn't give a fuck...including those who frequent said toilet. :) )

And he wanted to make sure the Chillis were high up there where they deserve to be... :)

Oh, ok

Seems a lot of work, and sort of skews the results. I guess it's some stats-based method.

:D See this face? :p Thing is, U2 aren't 'top of the pops' though, due to this method, and it just seems a really roundabout way of doing things

I haven't heard Sleen D'onion for years, but U2 is always being played (doesn't help that there's a obsessive fan working here - she went to see them on every day they played here, the muppet).

Stop being so reasonable.

*determines to make the office RHCP fan cry before the day is out in revenge*

:p

That's a joke, btw. There probably are RHCP fans in these offices, but I don't know who they are (obviously), nor would I bully someone so much to make them cry. Unless it was that guy, over there...

I'm tempted, when the winner is revealed, to actually let them know :)
If The Smiths / Morrissey gets it I'm friends with his FOH engineer and will gladly pass it on :D

As for my vote - close call, but I reckon it's got to be U2 purely on the grounds of bonos cuntishness :)

Just start singing Give it Away whilst throwing yourself around the office, and if anyone starts humming the tune - you've got yer wo/man then!

I went for Coldplay, as I thankfully know nothing about them. But what I have heard sounds the blandest, boring shite I'd ever heard. Can't believe they're so popular. Must be a case of music for people who don't like music. Awful, awful awful. :(

U2 however have knocked out some pretty good tunes over the years, it has to be said. :p

*clears throat*

*sings (sort of)*

"Wip-wapp-widdle biddle-boodle wobble ping pong, give it away, now!"

:D

no stats, no.. like i said in the first post, i just added up every time a band was mentioned (up to 10 per person although that's a bit shaky cos there was lots of debate etc) and took the top 36 to make up the 3 polls. nothing particularly complicated.

i just think pulling the top 10 from the nominations - as i did - isn't as much fun or as reliable because people were remembering acts they'd forgotten as it went on etc..
