Upgrade time on 02, what's a good deal?

My 02 contract had already come to end about a month ago but I only got around to ringing them up recently (they just keep rolling your current contract on a month-by-month basis if you don't do anything it seems). I did my research on all the other deals that rival operators were offering and armed with that plus having also read the helpful guide on the MoneySavingExpert website I rang the O2 upgrades number. I got the brush off first of all but I made out that I was prepared to cancel and got a "free" w880i handset plus 400min all networks + 1,000 texts per month for £20 on an 18 month contract whereas previously I was paying £18.99/month on an 18 month contract for 100min all networks & 50 texts and the w810i thrown in. With the UK phone market now matured, rentention is very important to the phone companies and threatening to leave near or after the end of your contract is the only bargaining chip that you have. Use wisely friend.

Setting up any internet access would be good. I am a bit hungover today so wikl have a looksee at the Nokia site later.

Well I got the mobile internet settings and that all works.

Wish this site had a mobile skin though.

I will have to investigate getting my wep code for the wireless internet at home. I hope I don't have to ring a bombay call centre, they have trouble with my accent and lack of patience plus I am still hungover.

It does, go to the bottom and select vblite, I use it loads. You can speed it up further by turning of images. If you download opera mini and use that over the the default browser the phone comes it will speed things up lots as well and is a lot nice to use.

You can get your wep code from your wireless router, you dont need to call them.

my 3 deal is 30 quid a month for 500 mins and 100 texts. i also got the 18 months contract which meant it was half price for the first 3 months and then after a year i got another month at half price.

FWIW I got my mobile phone added to my house insurance, didn't cost any extra. Of course, I've not had cause to make a claim yet, so I can't vouch for how good it is.

BT said the wep code ws on the bottom of the router but the phone says this should only be 5 digits and ther router has about 15....?

All sorted. I had to enter the 12 digit code in acci mode and all is well.

Apart from the set up issues, which would be easier if I tackled them sober, it's a great bit of kit.
