definitely agree on this starting line up diamond, certainly for european games and that looks a very good side. i'm gonna give my thoughts player by player:
jens had a blinding season last effort and can hopefully keep it up, but for how long? every game?
senderos had a good world cup IMO and that will hopefully give him confidence and calm him down as sometimes he does launch it or slide in unnecessarily.
toure is becoming one of europe's best imHo. so consistent.
eboue will be interesting this season, to see how much he will develop. how good can he be? looking at him from the sidelines last year lauren must have thought, 'er, well that'll be me off then, see ya lads.' for his first full season he's very exciting.
we'll see about left back but clichy is still a bit lightweight although technically and in terms of pace and application he's very good. traore is an unknown but the sounds are good.
gilberto had some mediocre games in the beginning and middle of last season, giving the ball away and being slightly off the pace, but he was immense towards the end, tireless in protecting his defense and i remember in the latter european ties thinking what a legend he was. i hope he does it all season and he's usually a consistent performer but those winter away games might not fancy him.
fabregas will hopefully progress this season to being a dominant force in the premiership and one of the 'big' names. he's got the talent so hopefully he'll stay fit and focused.
rosicky had a mare at dortmund and i don't understand why they bought and sold him at such a loss. seems bizarre. he's got the speed of touch and thought and the pace as well to make it in the prem and his passing style fits in well with us.
van persie will be a constant threat i think. i don't know how many he'll score, but when he has the ball or there's a set piece, something may happen and i like that. bit of a knob outside of football i reckon.
hleb for me was one of our best players by the end of the season, keeping the ball and running at people. he's superb and hopefully he can carry it on into next.
terry henry. i'm not so sure he'll score so many without his regular supply lines in pires & ljungberg but he's done without them for most of last season and hopefully that transition is complete now. i hope freddie plays plenty of games anyway as i reckon he's still ace. but i hope terry really leads this year as there were times last year when there was no direction on the pitch and henry was backchatting a bit or not showing the right body language. he'll be very important for us again and if he doesn't perform then we're in trouble.
there you go.
