So, anyone read The Scum this morning??...any thoughts on Henry's comments?....I can see the tranfer window in January being frought again if Wenger doest sign any big names like Henry wants.....
Bump...lets talk football kids, now that there's piece in our time.

i still don't think we have the squad to win the prem but i think we'll build on last season and the championes will be very interesting. we're still a bit light weight and with injuries, could struggle. we need some experienced players with a bit of physicality for those tough away games. it'll be interesting though and provately i'm more optimisitic than i am here..

About three weeks ago it looked like we had a very good squad for this season. Maybe there were a couple of worries over the defence but in general it looked very promising but now we know about the injuries of Diaby, Clichy and Senderos and given the almost certain transfer of Reyes and Cole it looks very different.

If we do get rid of Cole then we should get Gallas or SWP in return otherwise that would be too large a loss to bear, and if we lose Reyes we should demand Baptista too. The problem is that both players really want to leave so we are not in a very strong negotiating position.

On a sidenote our Carling Cup campaign will certainly be one to watch now we've got hold of Merida.

I reckon we'll challenge in the premiership but probably still suffer from poor winter away form thanks to a lack of experience but we should claim one of the domestic cups and do well in Europe. This is a strange sort of Wenger team in that it looks like it'll be far stronger in Europe than the Premiership. That's where it has had success and matured in the last year and given the youth and lack of physicality in the side, the European style of play will suit us better.

Ideal starting XI?

-------Crazy Jens--------
Eboue---Toure----Senderos---Traore/Clichy
-----------Gilberto------------
----Fabregas----Rosicky-------
Hleb-------------------Van Persie
-----------Henry----------

Certainly all change from a few years ago.

Cole looks like he may be staying...which is not good, this will unsettle the team, which I'm sure Chel$ki are fully aware of.

25 million for one of the better players in Englands WC debarcle, (and 25 years old too...in his prime) is a fair price; when you concider SWP £21 Mil.....Sevchenko...30 mill (for a 30 year old!!)....(and the rest)....

Edit to add.....Reye's can fuck off too.....

definitely agree on this starting line up diamond, certainly for european games and that looks a very good side. i'm gonna give my thoughts player by player:

jens had a blinding season last effort and can hopefully keep it up, but for how long? every game?
senderos had a good world cup IMO and that will hopefully give him confidence and calm him down as sometimes he does launch it or slide in unnecessarily.
toure is becoming one of europe's best imHo. so consistent.
eboue will be interesting this season, to see how much he will develop. how good can he be? looking at him from the sidelines last year lauren must have thought, 'er, well that'll be me off then, see ya lads.' for his first full season he's very exciting.
we'll see about left back but clichy is still a bit lightweight although technically and in terms of pace and application he's very good. traore is an unknown but the sounds are good.
gilberto had some mediocre games in the beginning and middle of last season, giving the ball away and being slightly off the pace, but he was immense towards the end, tireless in protecting his defense and i remember in the latter european ties thinking what a legend he was. i hope he does it all season and he's usually a consistent performer but those winter away games might not fancy him.
fabregas will hopefully progress this season to being a dominant force in the premiership and one of the 'big' names. he's got the talent so hopefully he'll stay fit and focused.
rosicky had a mare at dortmund and i don't understand why they bought and sold him at such a loss. seems bizarre. he's got the speed of touch and thought and the pace as well to make it in the prem and his passing style fits in well with us.
van persie will be a constant threat i think. i don't know how many he'll score, but when he has the ball or there's a set piece, something may happen and i like that. bit of a knob outside of football i reckon.
hleb for me was one of our best players by the end of the season, keeping the ball and running at people. he's superb and hopefully he can carry it on into next.
terry henry. i'm not so sure he'll score so many without his regular supply lines in pires & ljungberg but he's done without them for most of last season and hopefully that transition is complete now. i hope freddie plays plenty of games anyway as i reckon he's still ace. but i hope terry really leads this year as there were times last year when there was no direction on the pitch and henry was backchatting a bit or not showing the right body language. he'll be very important for us again and if he doesn't perform then we're in trouble.

there you go.

chelsea are very good at playing those sorts of mind games. i remember the first ahley cole saga started just in time for an arsenal vs. man utd game. they're a bunch of wankers. not that they didn;t mean to buy cole but they liked flexing their financial muscles anyway because as you say either way the team is unsettled.

reyes is too much of a fairy to play in the premiership. he's unbelievably lightwieght and scared of getting hurt

well, they were doing soundchecks on the pa system at the new stadium today. man is that loud  i hate to think what it's going to sound like in 13 days' time.

as you were...

think a 1-1 was a good result: as soon as they announced o'neill as villa manager, i thought that we might lose this game, so the fact that we didn't was a bonus for me.

hopefully we will see a bit more of walcott in the coming weeks.

how did theo do?
His cross made the second goal (via a defenders head, scored by Silva).

What a tough game. 67% possesion and being too elaborate around the box. This was always going to be a tough one, what with the "new manager" effect and when that managers O'Neal then a draws good in my books.

However, lots of possesion, lots of chances on goal, lets hope this is just The Arsenal waring in the new stadium.

On a side note, looks like Pire's has suffered the Ex-Arsenal player curse...

Pires struck down by new knee blow
Villarreal midfielder Robert Pires will be sidelined for most of the season after tearing the cruciate ligament in his left knee.

what are fellow gooners thoughts on ca$hley and reyes?

i think we should just get rid of them quick smart, and use the money to buy players that want to be at arsenal. considering how much money other teams around us have splurged this summer, the fact that we haven't brought many players in slightly worries me - i don't want to be battling for fourth place agian this season (although it looks like we might well be doing that).

I heard over the weekend that Real were just bluffing and actually had no money for Reye's. I feel sorry for the lad cause he's obviously unsettled and Real are just being dicks for stringing him along. Wenger said that the Real/ Reyes debarcle is "finnished" lets just hope he can settle back in.

As for Mr.Ka$hley Tweedy....almost there may look like Gallas will be part of the deal, the sooner the better. However he was quoted as saying he has nothing against Wenger or the Fans it's the bord that he has issues with. Seems like he might be repositioning himself, just in case. Still would like to see him go.

Might see a bit more Walcott tonight.

On the Reyes and Cole thing. If neither deal goes through, and atm they both look dead in the water, can they be rehabilitated? If they stay they'll presumably have to play at some point.

Bit disappointing all in all. Hleb's free role didn't seem to work and Hoyte is obviously not comfortable playing at left-back. Adebayor was anonymous and Eboue looked restricted.

Having said that Van Persie was simply brilliant. That skill he used to go past the defender was indescribable. To those who haven't seen it, it's worth tracking down on YouTube.

What was a bit odd, but in a good way, was how Henry seemed to almost be protecting Walcott. Wherever he was on the pitch, he'd always check to see if he could pass to Walcott first.

Yeah...Reyes' is truly getting on my tits!!

Must say saturdays game was pretty much what happened against the Villa in the opening game. 60% possesion (way from home)with no result, depressing.

Van Persie (however) is such a prospect, but his lack of goals really highlights the fact that we need another out and out striker, suppose that's why naismith is being looked at, although voices from Scotland are saying that it's unlikely he'll be signed.....same old, same old.....

We should have bought Kuyt....

Your wish has been granted, as a lot of fans.

David Dein didn't help the cashley situation but hey, he could have chosen another team but didn't. Bugger him.

IMO david dein has done nothing wrong.

ashley himself met up with chelsea, & everything that has happened since has all but confirmed this was a planned meeting between all parties concerned.

i'm glad he's gone, as i am with reyes - both players wanted to leave, and good riddance to both.

cygan being sold is also good in my books, he scared the shit out of me every time he played!

i'm liking our signings too - is all rosy from this end!

Dein is a bit weasley imo...

Apparently, Dein agreed weekly wages of £60k for cashley and then reneged and then told him £55k probably 'cos of the cash crisis, and dug his heels in. Cashley then went to talk to Chelsea...apparently. However, he could have gone to loads of other clubs so why Chelsea? Yeah, they're successful but if he was a true Gooner he would have gone elsewhere. Good riddance.

Gallas as the new Viera? ;)

i hope i dont course offence here, but vieira was with us for 9 years, the least you could do is spell his name!!! :p

but anyway - not a chance - gallas will stabalise the back 4, and certainly decrease the loss of cole.
