I've never been to the place either as Father Red Cap or the Red Star, but I kept hearing persistant local rumours about the dodgy old security. I've every confidence now though, that this will be sorted in a more sensible direction ...
I kept trying to guess where this would be after I first heard about the NYE thing a fortnight ago
but I never imagined Unsound would be able to grab such a big and suitable place as this!!

Go to Elephant and Castle by tube, then catch any of eight buses** from the Elephant that go to Camberwell Green, get off at Camberwell Green (about 15 to 20 minutes from the Elephant), the Red Star is right on the edge of this big open space, you pass the pub on your left (can't miss it) just before the bus stops
**12, 35, 40, 45, 68, 171, 176, 468
(there are also 3 or 4 night buses from Camberwell Green back to the centre of town)
If coming from Brixton get the 35, 45 or 345.

I've just gone off the idea ...
i'd suggest the Oval tube then a quick bus down Camberwell New Road myself
