unsound leaving the Redstar

Good luck to roby and sus - both very sound people!

Sadly I can't make it this Saturday, was planning on going next week but that's not happening any more :(

Long live Unsound though!!!!

Does this mean the end of Serious Business at the Redstar too?
There _might_ be one next Friday, depending on Warlock who is downstairs ... but it's looking pretty shaky to be honest.

After that ... err ... anyone got a spare venue? :o

I'm going to miss the Redstar :(

Is that totally it for Redstar then? That's pretty poo.Unsound was my saturday night for about 7 weeks running a few months ago :( .I haven't been down Camberwell to check it out.

that was a storming night. most of the people you'd want to see there were there, Dammers was on cracking form, i got totally fucked up. So all in order then :)

Thought I'd nick in with a quick question - :)

I seem to remember that Discharge played at the Redstar a while back. Since then, it seems to be housey-mousey/dance music? Is this the case? Is Redstar primarily a dance venue?

I'm hiding a selfish agenda - Redstar is on the bus route from my place, so it'd be great if there was a venue in sarf lundin which put on non-DJ/decks stuff.

:D

Different promoters used it for different nights - i've seen punk, ska, reggae, bands etc. But primarily it's on the jungle / hip hop / techno end of things..

Righty-oh. So it isn't that the venue itself won't put on punk/garage/guitar stuff? It's down to someone promoting a night or band and guaranteeing the venue a certain £$£$?

**cogs begin to whirr and turn**

I have a cunning plan...

Unsound were running the Redstar, which was under lease to the same people who run Jamm, the White Lion and Dirty South.

the owners are probably selling the lease, but either way Unsound are off - lots of council pressures etc made the venue untenable and they want to concentrate on the Italian trip.

Unsound promoted some of the nights themselved but also got other promoters in to work with them putting on nights. It's unlikely that now Unsound are off that the venue will remain open - the leaseholders are unlikely to get a new PA in (that's all Unsounds) and get new promoters if they're going to let it go anyway.

try the Grosvenor, between Brixton and Stockwell. gets used for lots of punk gigs and the like now, nice room..

Thanks Dub. I'm usually a bit sharper. Lol. Must have missed the meat of the thread during sicknote period.

**note to self - read the whole bloody thread in future**

I went along to what was my first and last ever Unsound at the RedStar. I'm really annoyed that it took me a year and a half of living in London before I finally managed to make it along. What a fucking wicked night! Although, the cherry on the cake was meeting Dub. What a man!
