Unlocking a USB Modem Dongle

5 months of light use (weekends at the caravan and the odd Virgin outage), last week my dongle got well and truely abused while we waited for Virgin to connect us at the new house..... and still no warning off O2.

I do have a spare sim that needs to be validated by next Feb, so hopefully i'll get close on 2 yrs out of this scam.

sorry :p

they've never had any money off me, but tbf I only use the Sim occasionally when mobile, not all day every day from a single location.... maybe it's the fact it never moves away from a single cell that gives it away?

Hmm, quite possibly. I'm on O2 on my mobile as well, that's what i meant by them having enough off me! :D Like i say tho, it was only used for a month, and they didn't give me 30 days warning like some have had.

Maybe coz i was one of the more recent ones to do it as well? I mean, the Ebay sellers have put the prices up on the sims, so it looks like a fair few people have gotten onto it...?

So far so good. The connection isn't great, although I am getting the stuff together to make one of those funny aerial things so I'll let you know if there is any improvement.

When it works it's fine for browsing etc. It doesn't get on too well with fog though..

Still, a thumbs up on the whole :D

Hi, Can anyone help me???

I'm having problems setting this up as I have everything working fine on a mates puter but on mine the Globe software icon on the top left with the little pc icon says "data not connected"?? I've looked but cant see how to correct this, does anyone have any suggestions as it's now infuriating with this not working.

Thanks in advace

In month six of mine. Had a warning text two months ago and they have still not cut it off.Though as I have no BB at the moment I am expecting it pretty soon as I have been using it for web development.

I find it works better using a USB extension lead and hanging it near the window. Always get the blue flashing light, if it is plugged directly into the laptop I get the slow red light.

You buy the USB modem dongle locked to 3 network for delivery cost of £5

You use the 'hacked MF626' firmware and flash it to your MF627 dongle.

You buy a iPhone O2 sim card off ebay ~ £2.79 which gives you unlimited wifi access for 12 months.

You insert sim in to dongle and set it up as the read me in the download says so, credit it with a tenner and away you go.....@ 3.6MBps (approx) download speeds.
(some people say you need to use the sim every now and then to send a txt to keep it as a eligable iphone sim, thats something i need to verify)

either way, £5 for an unlockable USB modem isnt a bad price whichever way you choose to use it.

( the iphone sim way is the way to go ;) )

Does this still work?

Part of Apples exclusive deal with O2 was that they offered free BB usage with all contract and PAYG deals.
Now that Orange has rights to sell the iPhone, can anyone confirm that Orange have to offer the same free BB package that O2 did?

There could be another bandwagon to jump on here, but get in early and you could do alright out of it ;)

As the instigator of this thread, I expect a peice of the action, so if you're in the know, let me know <taps nose>

O2: month 7 of your free O2 Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On is now active. If you need any help or have any questions then please visit www.o2.co.uk for info

Just received the above very nice text from 02, despite them threatening to cut me off three months ago and despite rather heavy usage since said implied threat!

It would appear so, found one on ebay unlocked for £17. Spose thats still gonna be the best deal isnt it.

Well the Orange deal says its unlimited.... but the fair use policy says 750Mb a month, which is well, not even remotely unlimited. Id expect to get through that much in a day as a dongle lol.

Bugger, looks like mine has finally been disconnected. :(

Still, got 10 months use out of it. Does anyone know if they blacklist the dongle, or whether I could just buy a new sim and start the 12 months again ?

I'd be interested to know this too, mine runs out at the end of this month and if all I have to do is get another O2 sim, then sweeet...
