Unlocking a USB Modem Dongle

Hmm, this is turning into fuck up central. Does anyone know where I can find the drivers for Windows Vista?

Cheers

When I try to connect it just says initializing and does nothing else, I am not 100% sure the drivers are installed and it shows up in device manager as a CD Rom.

Update: I fucked about with it until it gave in and it has now connected. Unfortunately there is no data coming through and I get the error page in Firefox (This page cannot be found or whatever the message is

Any idea Urban?

Cheers

Thanks Addy, I did what kropotkin did and it is all now nice and connected and I am posting from it!

Thanks for your help

Thanks for your help so far Addy - still can't seem to connect to the internet.

So far - I've got a ipone sim, ive put it in an o2 handset and recieved my welcome text and notification that i have topped it up, and i can use it in the phone to make calls.

when i put it in my o2 dongle and use the settings you provided it shows the o2 network symbol and good signal strength but when i try and connect it says 'no carrier available'

the dongle works fine with the original o2 sim i have, so it's not a hardware issue

Anyone got any ideas?

Just top up via a cashpoint or shop.
If you use your O2 dongle, you should get the confirmation txt's through the connection manager.

basementman used a normal 2G phone to top up (call 4444) and he got his Mobile Internet within 24hrs.

im using mine on a mac and the mobile connect app doesnt seem to have any sms functionality so i had to put my sim in a mates o2 phone to get the activation text notifications, though im not sure that was required as the actual connection problem was due to putting in the phone number that came with the sim card into the connection settings rather than *99#

Cool my doungle is hacked and getting a connection. I haven't toped up the sim yet. I figure I am better off going to the shop and getting a top up voucher rather than calling 4444 and using my debit card. That way o2 don't have my debit card details attached to the sim. Does that make sense or am I being paranoid?

got this working with 2 different dongles now - but has anyone got a link to download the drivers for the 3 dongle (MF627)- I've already flashed mine (and is working perfectly) but I'm trying to install it at work and can't find them online anywhere and they're no longer on the dongle itself

Ok I topped the o2 sim up with a prepay voucher on an old o2 handset. It credited ok but no txt about the bolt on yet. I'll give it 24hrs. I was going to leave the sim connected in the doungle but guess that would start running down the £10 credit before the bolt on arrives.

I could not find them anywhere online so I went to

'System'

right click on device (there were three on mine)
Update driver
Update driver from internet

and then it found them. make sure you are connected to the net at the time.

Ok I am posting from this bad boy. I had to change the dns servers to automatic. I didn't register the sim just topped it up from an old phone. Maybe it makes no differance. Whether I have the bolt on or I am just using the £10 credit I don't know.

The connection manager has a tab that should tell you all connection details...etc
or out the sim in a phone and call *#10# to get your balance.

I just stuck the sim in to check the credit and got a txt saying the bolt on had been activated. Cool!

So for anyone in the middle of this, after unlocking the doungle I just stuck the sim in an old o2 phone(not 3g) credited it with a £10 voucher bought in the newsagent. Bolt on txt took about 24hrs to arrive. I used the doungle before the txt arrived and was not charged.

Got one of the dongles a couple of weeks ago. Have just ordered a sim  Cheers for the info Addy

You might get a connection if you change the DNS settings to auto - it seems to be most peoples problems.

I'm trying to set this up on a Vista laptop, have flashed the dongle, topped up the credit on the sim, installed the connection manager - everything appears to be working fine, and the symbol showing connection to the internet is appearing - but it's just not working!

Windows doesn't like the primary and secondary dns being the same, so I've set it to auto dns but still the same problem. Any ideas?

Some people on another forum are using these settings...

dial number *99#
username: mobileweb
password: password
APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk

Leave all the dns settings as automatic.
