Unlocking a USB Modem Dongle

Does anyone on these forums have a free unlock solution to a 3 network USB Modem - model ZTE MF627?

I can get it done at a cost with a DC unlocker + credits, I was just wondering if anyone had a free solution.

Cause these dongles are being sold for the P&P cost of £4.95

Had some reservations about this but have found several references that it's all ok (money saving expert forum, 3mobilebuzz blog and it's been recommended to me by 2 seperate forum users) blog post here http://www.3mobilebuzz.com/2009/05/0...ee-not-a-scam/

This firmware is off the MF626 model, but unlocks the dongle to other networks for free.

So, for:
£4.95 - Dongle
£2.79 - iPhone O2 sim
£10 - top up

= £17.74
.. I get free unlimited mobile broadband use for 12 months.

You buy the USB modem dongle locked to 3 network for delivery cost of £5

You use the 'hacked MF626' firmware and flash it to your MF627 dongle.

You buy a iPhone O2 sim card off ebay ~ £2.79 which gives you unlimited wifi access for 12 months.

You insert sim in to dongle and set it up as the read me in the download says so, credit it with a tenner and away you go.....@ 3.6MBps (approx) download speeds.
(some people say you need to use the sim every now and then to send a txt to keep it as a eligable iphone sim, thats something i need to verify)

either way, £5 for an unlockable USB modem isnt a bad price whichever way you choose to use it.

( the iphone sim way is the way to go )

Don't even go there Crispy. I pay €60+ a month for my net and phone bill. Plus €30 for the tv (otherwise I'd have 3 channels, one of them in Irish).
And my net is slow, 7 gigs my arse.

I cant see why not providing you get O2 coverage in Eire, as your using the O2 mobile broadband on your dongle as you would on a iPhone.

What's this iphone sim, and would it be usable outside of an iphone / dongle?

Its an (3G - Third generation) O2 network PAYG sim card that was shipped with the Apple iPhone.
The bonus was that it offered free 12 months of Mobile Broadband free once activated and credited.
Can be used in any O2 or unlocked phone or dongle.

Appologies, my post where I mention WiFi is incorrect, it should have said Mobile Broadband.


The USB Modem dongle uses the iPhone o2 sim to take advantage of the free Mobile Broadband as offered with every new iPhone.

You just need to be able to pick up the 3G network signal, like you would on a mobile phone.

No idea about the cost but I presume it's free otherwise there'd be no point unlocking the dongle.

Well I ordered the Sim card no problem. I then ordered the Three Dongle and they claim to have sent me an email with a voucher code. No email has arrived

Not in there Crispy, had to register with another username and use my Gmail account. All ordered now. Free mobile broadband here I come!

Until O2 close the loophole, then yes its free Broadband.
I guess O2 didn't think that there would be a blackmarket for iPhone sims to be exploited in this way, and that the regular iPhone user would do limited web browsing and such on their iPhones when they offered free BB as a sales pitch.

Just make sure the sim you buy is still valid (there is a sticker on the sim 'credit card' type holder with the validate by date)

Yeah people who have jail broken them for use on their existing contract, they paid for the SIM which is prolly worth a few quid. £342.50 for the 8Gb and the 16GB version for £391.45 include the cost, strange they let it go so cheaply.

I think o2 make a profit what ever.

For those of you that buy one of these Dongles and a iPhone Pay&Go sim, these are the settings you need when you create an O2 profile (set it as default)

User is faster
Password is password
APN is payandgo.o2.co.uk
DNS is 193.113.200.195
