Unknown to you bands that blew you away live?

I'd never heard of Neutral Milk Hotel until a mate persuaded me to come along and see them - for the first couple of minutes, I thought they were just really, really good....and then the horn section came on...

I went to see Unsane at the Garage about 15yrs ago, and God were supporting. The British God, not the American one. They bludgeoned me into some sort of altered state, awe-inspiring; so much so that I don't think I enjoyed the headliners as much as I'd expected to.

The Blue Aeroplanes (supporting The Darling Buds at the Town & Country Club)
Janes Addiction (supporting The Wonder Stuff at Brixton Acadamy).
Tool (supporting Rage Against The Machine in Liverpool)
Butthole Surfers - Reading Festival.
Rodrigo Y Gabriela - Glasto, accoustic stage

Indeed it was. My first festival too!!! :D

i have their slot on video somewhere too.. just astonishing.

All the really fucked up people made it out of their tents and into the dustbowl in front of the main stage for that one :D

Fat Freddy's Drop were a bit of a shocker live cos they were so tight, yet sooo slow and I'd never heard a not of theirs before - better live than on record

LOL. I think we'd gone down to see Dinosaur Jr or possibly Nirvana and then these mentalist came on stage afterwards and the field was flooded with grebos! It was boiling hot and they played for about 3 hours!!!

I remember the three day ticket cost 32 quid, and larger was about 1.20 a pint. Oh how times have changed!

Shellac supporting Fugazi in '99 - had heard of them but never heard any records - blew me away! Better than Fugazi ... who were amazing themselves! :)

Zen Guerrilla at the Scala supporting Man or Astroman,

They were bloody awesome especially their cover of moonage daydream.
Man or Astroman were shite by comparison.

aw, only saw Zen Guerilla once - at the Garage (with the mighty PW Long supporting) - and they were brilliant.

"I got rock'n'roll in mah titties" :D

Cheap trick (supporting motley crue years ago)
You Am I (aussie band went with aussie mate but had never heard them....blew my socks off totally....like the who/faces, great passion great songs....seen them a couple of times since and they always deliver).
Buff medways (supporting youamI the second time I saw them!).

Saw them blow away Supersuckers at the LA2/Mean Fiddler...ironically i went there early on Eddie Spaghetti's recommendation.

Was one of the very best live shows I've ever seen,. They were on at 7.30pm or something dumb like that and it was the hottest sunny day outside but they made me feel like it was midnight. Much missed band.

Above the Blue Carpet, heard them for the first time a couple of weeks ago, Legendary Tiger Man, first heard him in Gaia (and in a bar in Santo Tirso) does fantastic videos. But the one that totally blew me away the first time I heard them was Naked Ruby, so much fun and excitment in their music

Turbonegro... my mate was taking photos for the Brighton Festival and said 'I can blag you in' so I was duely blagged in... we both hadn't heard of Turbonegro and were blown away by their satanic warrus on lead vocals, rest of the band in nazi uniform with heavy make up on, drag queens in the mosh pit shtick

recently Daisy, Kitty and Lewis, because I hadn't actually checked who was on the bill, and very nearly didn't go....

I'm from Barcelona at JAMM sometime last year on Ianw's recommendation.

I've not had as much fun at a gig since.

TV on the Radio. Amazing.

Perhaps it actually helps to have never heard a band before - no expectations to be let down.

And no complaining when they don't play the song you want them to, or when they insist on selfishly playing songs from the new album they've been pouring their blood, swaet and tears into for the past 12 months :)

the fall, dec 2003 - i'd only heard a song or two by them (shamefully), and they were amazing...

and, erm, bjorn again opening glastonbury ('99?). they were one of the highlights of the entiire weekend... :D

Unknown to me at the time but managed to stumble into a tent at a festival and Suzanne Vega was on, blew me away.
