unionising in workplace

Given that fascism is a political movement dedicated to atomising the working-class and smashing working class organisations that's a particularly fucking silly thing, even for the king of idiotic thinking ie you, to say.

and we all know that using the wrong word on an internet forum is so much more important than the threat of losing your job because you are or are not a member of a union...

i'm really glad we've got folk like you defending our interests Fed, it helps me sleep at night.

in terns of the current legal structure - the way for a union to have any standing anywhere is to become formally recognised. there are formal procedures to be followed often involving balloting of employees. you don't sound anywhere near there yet so just keep on trying to get people to join.

Good luck

Its an arduous process but a good start is getting a meeting together and getting a union official to speak. The OP should try pursuading the employer to allow it in works time by selling the benefits of collective bargaining and having a recognised union.

I've been testing the water somewhat by pushing for an effective "employee voice" group (aka union lite) - they have one which is under-utilised, and I've made some light pushes for reform and have been met with resistence at every level. Those of us who have joined are all very uncomfortable with openly recruiting, so we met with our organiser woman last night. She has suggested that her and a few of her colleagues leaflet, independently of current members, outside our two main call centres, encouraging people to sign up (she plans to write and ask if she can set up an "approved" stall in the foyer, first of all, which we are fully expecting a massive "no!" to).

All of us who are already members are excited by this. Any thoughts, anyone? Once again, much gratitude to everyone who has responded to this thread already...

Many years ago I was told I had to join the union or lose my job.
I fucked them off at the first possible chance and have been dead set against the fascist bastards ever since.

I know a few like that at my workplace... until one was being bullied and the other two were threatened with losing their jobs, and they all ran to the unions because only the unions would stand up for them.

As a form of direct action against derfs constant, obvious, counter-revolutionary trolling, I suggest you join your fellow Urban75 comrades in not feeding him. Only by starving the beast will he succumb to the powers of the many. Engage with him and, like a psychological parasite, a vampire of socio-collective thought, he will grow stronger, more brazen and infinately annoying. Be strong, StephJ, for there are dark forces at work tempting the righteous from all sides. Take this orb for 3 added defence points.
