Underrated footballers

Mauricio Taricco. As an Ipswich fan one of my favourite ever players. Also left West Ham with a lot of dignity (signed a contract with them, got injured and never player, so left without asking for a penny. Freddy Ljungberg take note)

Snide as though on the pitch :D

Thread revival for Benoit Assou-Ekotto. Unless they're free-kick machines, fullbacks are rarely raved about, but his return from injury has coincided with Tottenham's recent form, and perhaps gives Bale a little more freedom, as I'm not sure Spurs have another leftback, do they?

It is frankly astonishing that Rickie Lambert doesn't play for England and even more incredible that the mighty let him go for nowt. I can't see what he doesn't have as a footballer. He's good with his back to goal, physical, can pass, head and is deadly and can welly the ball like proper good players can. When you were a kid, really good players could kick it harder than anyone else, Lambert is like that.

Adam Lallana might be an even better shout, being a lot younger, although there is more competition for the number ten role.

Only really properly appreciated by us when he's not there ....
