Under Pressure

But you're claiming to know that people who like cheesy music are denying it. How can you possibly know that? And, like I said, the concept of cheesy is thoroughly subjective, so you also can't know whether the stuff they say they like is stuff they consider cheesy.

Do try and think a LITTLE bit harder about this stuff :)

My assumption rest in the fact that we were all once children, and liked stuff that would appall us today. Generally speaking is Bone M cheesy, or the pinnacle of musical excellence. ;)

I disagree, but that's not the point and it's just my opinion.

The point is that muser thinks the only reason we don't ALL admit to liking stereophonics is that we're compelled by social pressure not to.

Which, if you think about it, is a weird way of thinking about music you like.

Read my numerous post above, I don't suggest this at all.

I suspect some people still like Boney M and don't think it's cheesy. So what's your point?

Actually, I'm not sure you have one anymore :D

my mum probably doesn't.

cheesy is subjective, it can't be anything but.. examples like Boney M might test the hypothesis, mind ;)

I still maintain that Phil Collins is underrated
Good god man - I'm all for live and let live, but one can only be pushed so far...

Hey, don't be harsh. As a singer Phil Collins is a very good....

It's not particularly distinctive - it's like a cross between Rod Stewart's
So close to Rod Stewart's that I once bet a fiver with a mate that the song on her car radio was actually him. And not Kelly Jones. I lost and she never tires of reminding me

Kelly Jones listened to a LOT of Rod Stewart :D is my considered opinion

Well exactly

Phil C isn't cheesy, he's just shite

Yeah, like, I actually liked the stereophonics for a few months (I didn't really listen to hardly any music at the time) to be cool. See, it takes all sorts

And before anyone starts ... Idaho's space is where I am as well ...

I don't give too much of a shit what people like in music most of the time, but there are limits!!!!

Re. Girls Aloud, I profess my love of them whenever I can, to which a lot of people say "I bet you do, nudge-nudge, wink-wink, say no more". Now I actually love them for their music (they're attractive girls but I don't fancy any of them per se), but I'm afraid my status as a 23 year old, white, heterosexual male prevents them from accepting that.

I'm also wary of my love of hip hop coming over Westwood-ian. Don't get me wrong, I find him amusing and like a lot of what he plays, but I guess I adopt the John Peel mantra of not alligning myself to one exact genre. The aforementioned Girls Aloud nestle right next to Ghostface Killah in my alphabeticised CD collection, and McFly next to the MC5.
