UK's Longest Guided Busway scrapped

I would say there is almost "never" the case where changing a bus route into a tram route say a fall of public transport users. Indeed, the point of going for a tram or light rail is that it is seen as of being of a higher quality and is able to attract people from their cars. Even dreadful old bigots like you.

How is it higher quality when you have less chance of getting a seat than you did when the service ran with buses? The fastest transport on the route will still be the airport bus as it's a limited stop service (it didn't cost £500M - and climbing day by day).........

The busway was one of the most bizarre ideas I have seen. Wee wheels on the side of the bus lol!

Trams are good. I come from a city that has mixed tram/bus system and given a choice I will always take the tram. Trams beat traffic. They have less seats but much less hassle is involved getting in and out. Also, they are faster, quieter and greener (some buses in Edinburgh are really hardcore polluters - not that it matters much with all the wind).

However, Edinburgh is far from perfect city for a tram system. Too many narrow and steep streets so trams cannot work as a primary means of public transport. But as an addition to existing bus system it is viable imo.

The cogs churn on relentlessly inside Cobbles' head:

Trams are bad because they are underused. Trams are also bad because they are so full you can't get a seat on them. Meanwhile, trams are also bad because the stops are further apart than on buses (which by the way are also bad) but also trams are also bad because they are slower than those buses (buses which are not so bad because they go to the airport, which is good) which have less stops than the trams....clunk clunk clunk
