would it be fair to say that showing it on sky would have been a failure then, considering it would have got about 3 or 4 times the number of viewers on terrestrial? if viewing figures alone were enough to judge something's success or failure, then sky would have disappeared a long time ago.

sky didn't bid for any of the rights for england qualifiers, they know it was a bit of a failure.

well exactly, i'm guessing that it was a partial success for the company who bought the rights (i'm guessing they made some money, though i doubt they will publically admit how much or how little) but if you're going to judge success or failure on the amount of people who actually watched it, then sky has been an abject failure compared to terrestrial television for the last 15-20 years.

Sky Sports fail for england games, as the entire footballing nation wants to watch. Terrestrial can't and i don't think has ever put as many football games on as sky currently do, premiership wise, league wise, Spanish and scotish league as well as forign international games sky is a huge success.


How many Division 1 games did the bbc used to show out of interest, I can only ever remember watching cup games on bbc. Could be shit memory though.

bitter! i think the people who are trashing the internet stream as an 'abject failure', just because they didn't want to pay extra money to watch something on their laptop are the bitter ones. i'm not bitter because i can't afford sky, there are far bigger reasons for me to despise sky than the fact that i can't afford it. after all, i watch my team every week in real life
