Ukraine v England - internet stream only

well obviously paying sky/virgin isn't much better but at least its not paying a gambling company, that seems worse somehow.

sky do it to make money this seems like a ploy to get lots of people to gamble, which makes bet365 money. Seems dishonest.

dave

And atleast with sky, its actually on tv! Not some small crappy monitor.

this is what you asked for when everyone signed up to the sky deals in the '90s. suck it up.

Even though you can't afford it, surely your not that narrow minded that you can't see the difference? I didn't ask to pay for extra, btw. I expect value for the money i pay for the tv stuff. I never gave into setanta, same goes for this.

(and yes i know setanta was tv to, but its the same sort of thing, a new idea that isn't needed or wont work in the long term)

it's a money making scheme that makes football more inaccessible to the people who want to watch it, apart from those who are willing to cough up extra charges for a product that is pretty much the same as what was already available. it's easy for me to say this as someone who doesn't care much about meaningless england qualifiers, but i'm fairly enjoying the outrage from people who see no problem in handing over large amounts of cash to a company which helps sustain the monopoly big clubs have on the game, but cry foul when told that they have to watch the match on a computer screen instead of a telly.

it's all a load of bollocks, so fuck the companies, fuck the ukraine, fuck the FA and fuck those silly enough to pay, to be honest.

I'm not so outraged cause were already through, but if this continues, then i will be. That's all that worries me, i don't just buy sky for football btw, there's loads of other stuff i like to watch also, and this makes it worth it for me. I'm not gonna buy into some online bullshit just cause it has a meaningless(for us) qualifier.

You should be used to it, following a team that plays its home games 300 miles from your home. :D

:p

Atleast i can watch them though!

I dont need TV, if i want to see football i get off my arse and go to the game :p:p:p

On a serious note, yes, the internet is 'the future' of a lot of things, but this proves that it does have flaws. Whoever came up with this does not understand football. I think a boycott is in order

Hope you all get to see the game in one shape or form ..... just packing my bags, i am off to Finland today (via Tallinn :D)

Everyone in England should boycott it and flock to whatever pubs are (illegally or otherwise) showing it...

Yes, not being able to watch my national side in a World Cup qualifier is exactly what I asked for.

ok, maybe not, but... i don't see how people can complain about something which is no different to the way sky have been operating for the last 15 or 20 years. you pay your money, you get your content. if you don't pay, you don't get your content.

obviously, i have sympathy for the people who don't want/never wanted sky (etc) in the first place, but i don't see many people on this thread complaining about football being taken away from the people who wanted to watch it all those years ago. in fact, we even have people arguing that this is completely different to sky.

Pay per view content is massively different to a subscription based service.

Sky learnt this through that premiership plus bullshit that everyone just went to the pub to watch rather then paying a 5er for a single game.

Aye, says the bloke who knows the pub across the street are showing it :p

I've never had Sky (and thus will always consider myself as having a deprived childhood) but I would still argue that in one key way the two cases are different, namely the ban on pubs screening the game.

I was looking forward to going to watch Welling United (feck off :p) then nipping down the pub to catch the WCQ. Now I can't see England unless I go to work (and pay for the privilage!), which would mean I couldn't watch Welling.

So, while I think there is some substance to your argument, there is still a difference.

A subscription based service is effectively pay per view. If you don't pay/subscribe, you don't view.

Well it is completely different. At least with Sky you can watch games in the pub if you don't have a subscription. Before Sky there was hardly any live football on television anyway, so I don't see how it's taken football away from those who want to see it.

However, as I stated in my first post on this thread, I believe that all England games should be shown on the BBC.

I'd rather pay a few quid here and there for a good quality stream of a match I particularly wanted to see than fork out 50 quid a month for a sky service which won't have that much overall to make me want to see it...

Well that is just simplistic and bollocks!

There is a huge difference between paying for watching the entirety sky sports has to offer, through multiple channels featuring multiple sports and multiple games of each sport, then paying a sum of money for a specific game or event.

I know its on the same hill and there is a bigger difference between that and just having the licence fee( i refuse to call it free tv) stuff. But there is still a massive degree of difference and saying its the same thing is a bit ludicrous.

Totally agree!

Football on Sky has more in common with football on the internet, it's a long way from terrestrial TV. That's basically what it boils down to.

as i said, none of this makes any difference to me as i'm excluded from the majority of football screened in this country due to not being able to afford expensive subscriptions. but i'm surprised at some of the people who do subscribe to expensive television packages suddenly complaining about having to pay a fee to watch this match.

i agree that england matches should be on bbc (or at least terrestrial tv)

The guys who are doing it officially are going to only offer 1 million subscriptions but think that 2.5 million will watch (shared viewing on a screen blah blah). Lets face it - Ukraine vs England isnt an important game now (although I would love a played 10/won 10 record going into the finals), and its also on at a wonky time - 5.15. thats good pub time but not really the kind of time I would want to fire up the lappy for some reason - not sure why :)

Bet365 have bought the rights too, and if you are going to have a punt on the game, you may as well watch it through there.

There are a few sites like www.ukraineversusengland.co.uk that have the links etc

And i daresay the more enterprising pubs will pay for this and then run an HDMI cable to their screen.

Maybe it's because they can't watch it on the telly and have to rely on a computer, maybe they don't have broadband at home.
