I used to play one when I was a violinist, it's the same fingering/scale patterns, and D.G.A.E. tuning... if I remember rightly... good for a laugh but Atomic Suplex looks to be the winner of any ukelele cool contests so we may as well lock the thread.

I'm told you can get them anywhere now.

yes! well it will sound very different anyway. if it's already shit tho then it wouldn't be such a total disaster, it would stil soudn worse tho. unless it's electric, then it won't make any difference.

Missus psyche (soon to be properly missus psyche since we got engaged this evening ) has one, she used to have a normal on but that got smashed, nor she has a banjo styke one whihc is suoer cool and the soundbox end thing looks like it could be used to fry things up in emergencies

Does it make a big difference how good the instrument is? I'm hoping to scab like a £10 on off my friend for the summer and paint it... will it still be playable?

In my humble plucking experience no not really, the only thing I would say was needed is that the tuning knobs on the head are geared and not just pegs.

Painting ukes are becoming quite fashionable along with cigar box ones.
