UK vs US dance music

And didn't the blues and jazz come out of the music slaves made which originally come from Africa anyway? :)
like all post colonial music they came about through a mix of musical traditions, there's definitely European influences too (just look at the instruments being used)

all true

if we're talking origins of dance music we should look at animal skins and guts stretched between bones, hollowed logs, etc. really

if it makes ya shake yer booty and wave yer hands in the air... :D

Rave - you mean the 91 breaky hardcore stuff.... that probably came out of early belgian techno..... Jungle and d and b came from rave. i hate the word 'rave' to define music....
I've started using 'rave' to distinguish it from the post 95 happy hardcore 'bouncy techno' stuff. But yes, I was refering to oldskool happy hardcore. You're right, it came partially from belgian techno, but I don't think that's the whole story. For a start, belgian techno didn't have breaks at all.

broadly yes, though some might suggest that european folk and christian music influences were added to the numerous strands of african tribal music into already in the pot. but that wasn't the question.

Apart from Jeff Mills, the yanks never fully got "my" idea of dance music.
We did the whole 808 state, vodoo ray summer of love thing better.
Goldie invented Jungle at Heaven.
The only time the Yanks pipped our Breakbeat/Tekno was Winks higher state of Conciesness.
We obviously have the garage thing locked down.
House music? Contencious, As the direct decendent of disco, we were on shakey ground compared to the yanks, however, with the whole DIY soundsystem and others back in the day, I think we at least equalled that brand of Yankee soul warbling.

Infact, if you look at whats happening now, all the Yanks have to offer is the unlistenable/dance music taken to it's logical conclusion "booty base" Oh Yeah, that and a few thousand retarded trance heads with glow sticks listening to music even worse than Hallucinogen.

We on the other hand, have Teck House, Gabba, Grime, Breakbeat pumping out on 12 inches every weekend, and still as fresh as a nine foot daisy to boot.

What a bizarre and ridiculous post!!

ok, starter for ten...

Detroit... TECHNO
Chicago...HOUSE

ACID...HOUSE

starting to get the picture now??

MY dance tastes are firmly rooted in the early ninties, and at that time the only 'dance' coming out of america was house. We ripped the shit out of them with everything else.

Bollocks. Check out WPA - The Seawolf on UR. 1993 I think - proper avin it acid techno.

Yeah, but they got their best ideas from Italo-disco. I blame Giorgio Moroder ;)

Though, of course, Bluestreak is boringly accurate :)

Very true, A lort of Jesse saunders' early stuff on Mitchball was based on Italo disco.

Aha!! A man who knows his onions, I salute you, placid.

A lot of italo productions were amazing!! maurizio dami (naif orchestra, alexander robotnik etc) in particular.

In fact i recall carl craig sampling one of his tracks on his PLACID angels ep if im not mistaken?

Would be interested to hear which bit. I own the record.

The track was a collaberation between Open house (Mark Wilson) and Placid Angles ( John Beltran) on Carl's retroactive imprint.

Altohugh he did a remix of the full 2 sided release of Aquatic.

aha!! think it may be 'aquatic'. definitely got that, though cant be sure as its years since ive played it. will have to hunt it out tonight. im at work now so cant check but sure one of the songs on whatever ep it is samples naif orchestra 'check out 5'. to be honest it doesn't really do a great deal with it other than stick a clunking drum track over the loop. try to track down the original (on that weird italo label that had the 7" labels on 12" records, or some fuzz dance comp thing ive got with problems d'amour on the other side) - it is stunning.

but not as stunning as BABY'S GANG is you're familiar with their peerless genius:)
