Paxman was cross about this being dropped and they closed Newsnight with it the other evening.
Personally,i don't like it.

I would prefer it if they would drop the National anthem played each evening to my intense irritation after the soothing Shipping Forecast.

even though i only get to hear it once a year or so, i think it will be a shame if the UK theme goes. it's a piece of classic british eccentricity IMO

if it's dropped, future generations of UK ravers will miss out on the bafflement of coming across a full military band version of What shall we do with the drunken sailor when twiddling the radio in the car whilst going home

i'm sure there'll be a petition or something to try and preserve it.

That's dispiriting news...although I can't deny that the prospect of an extended shipping forecast excites me.
