UK airports on critical alert, 18 arrested...

The terrible truth is that another terrorist attack here, is almost ineveitable, thanks to Blairs crazed foriegn policy. It's not if, but when.

What don't you believe? That there's a terrorist threat now, or that there were sufficent processes put in place after Lockerbie that would prevent any terrorist threat.

Going on track record, I would go for the latter :(
I believe that aviation's pretty safe, as far as onboard threats go, especially transatlantic aviation. If you want a good indication of why, you need look no further than El Al, the Israeli airline.

I'm fairly sure, though, that it could be breached. I reckon if you had a massive number of people all trying to get onto planes with bombs, that it wouldn't take very long for one to get past. Let's say 1 in 1000.

However, back in reality, we don't have a massive number of people with bombs, I'd hope. Is a terrorist going to take the 0.1% chance of success, or blow up a tube train, with a 50% chance? Or a cinema, with a 90% chance?

"Additional Hand Searching".

Now I'm scared, I don't fancy getting fingered by some burly security guard!

It'll be a patdown searchg, nothing too intimidating, they'll probably make your take your shoes off, lift your hair if its long etc

Just on the radio - loads of flights cancelled:(

I think they said ALL BA flights from/to the London airports - it was a newsflash, whilst I was in the bathroom so didn't hear it that well.

Sky News is saying 'some' BA flights are to be cancelled.

The new terror threat:

Now then call me a cynic (but don't you dare call me a conspiraloon..) , but is this not all too convenient for the government. The day after John Reid the home secretary says that we are in the gravest danger since 1940 (not that the Cuban missile crises could have been very dangerous to us should it had gone "hot".) & we will have to lose some of our rights & civil liberties for our own safety..
This alert happens, on security intelligence. This would be the same intelligence that produced the "dodgy" WMDs in Iraq dossier (the last greatest threat to our existence since 1940.. ), resulted in the death of Jean Menezes & the Forest Gate "dirty bomb" raid.. Sorry not convinced.

but don't let that put you off your massive arms-waving terror panic.

And I presume that would have been your response had 4 people been arrested and the Tube network closed as a precaution on a July morning last year.

I'll eat my own hands if there's the slightest fragment of truth in any of this.
If it comes to that, leave yourself one usable digit so you can type a post telling us about it.

They have just announced in the USA that Hair Gel is to be banned on board!!

Oh my God! Posers everywhere will be up in arms!!!!;)...as long as their armpits aren't sweaty:rolleyes:

I'd certainly be cynical of any terror arrests, yes. However an attack on soft targets is genuinely likely, and continues to be so today - unfortunately due largely to our government's continued actions.

The reason why i'm so sceptical about these hysterical headlines is;

a) Its always all over the media and then at the end of the day, nobody is convicted of anything down the line.
b) They only announced this threat level thing the other week and now everyone is running around going "omg, we're on critical !!".

And you don't believe that an aircraft is still a soft target? It may be a lot more secure than a tube or a bus, but your bonkers if you think it's genuinely secure.

So what do you reckon then? The security services are just doing this for a laugh? To cause disruption?

No, it was cleary the work of George Bush, a Lizard from outer space who were only targetting white people with tin foil hats.

Don't be so ridiculous - tell me what checks are carried out prior to your boarding a Train, Tube or Bus - or even standing in the middle of a music concert, or selfridges?

If you think about it, for the terrorists to win all they have to do is 'release' a little news that there is a bomb plan every week!
Week on week it would bring the country to a grinding halt!

Can you imagine what Heathrow would be like if this happened every week ffs!

'soft target' is just a mass media buzzword

It takes something like this to truly remind you of the half-wit bullshit that gets typed on Urban 75!

Given a brain, some of you lot would be dangerous!
:D

Wedding tomorrow - Honeymoon....possibly cancelled...:(

Anyway, Just a guess but I dont think they are looking for explosives. If its a liquid based threat, then its possible to get a couple of people on each flight with two different chemicals that can be mixed together to form some kind of incapacitating agent - rendering everyone including the crew unconcious or worse.

You would have to mix them together scientifically - in the toilets, or even unscrewing the caps and pouring them onto the floor.

Just a though.

Hope the police dont arrest me if I'm right!! Got my Groom speech to write!

...care to enlighten us then?

Btw. I'm feeling a bit sick, 'cos my big kids are the other side of the world right now, so I'd welcome the 'voice of reason' or what ever.

Didnt the baddies raise the ground level using radar in that one to make the planes crash?

If I get on a plane - I'd better wear a vest then! Yippee Ky Ay Mutherfukkers!

Probably small potatoes in the grand scheme of things....

....but this ban on any containers and fluids is going to really fuck the duty free trade!

Oh no - that was Die Hard 2: Die Harder.

Although, that one did have more plane specific plots in it

BAN THESE TERRORIST MANUALS!

This will never end will it? Thanks to the occident's legacy of meddling in the Middle East and that lunatic with a God complex residing behind the Bible Black Door of Number 10 we're going to have these 'alerts' regularly.

Can anyone advise me on emigrating to Norway?

I just think that this is a bit melodramatic with a massive knock-on financial effect on duty-free trade, the airline industry and tourism to have been dreamt up by Blair's advisors in an attempt to distract from the appalling mess in the Lebanon.

But hey - conspiraloon theories are fine when we're talking about the UK government, right?
