UFO sighting Streatham Common

It was there - gaijinboy can attest to this. He only resisted buying one as he'd just finised a large slice of carrot cake after his enormous sausage in a bun.

I got one of those sausages in a bun. I had the shits the next day. I think it was the massive amount of onions in it :D

I had one of those sausages, but was OK..MINE DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH ONIONS.............gggggggggrrrrr. He he

The yoghurt van was missing for the second year running.

I saw no UFOs over West Norwood either. .GRR

Quite a buzz about this sighting. Lots of silver discs making some kind of formation, with litterally hundreds of witnesses.

On a side note, a mate and I had a little sighting a few weeks ago, and whilst I was on holiday, so did someone else, cos it was in our local paper. That sighting was a week before our one, so I left a comment on the story saying that there had been another ufo sighting. They've only gone and published it!! I have a sighting report in a paper* (sorry, but it's a bit of a dream come true for me)

*well, it was in the letters to the editor :D

What did you see?

I was outside the pub with a mate, having a smoke, at about midnight. We were both just chatting and I caught this big orange light out of the corner of my eye. At first i thought it was a chinese lantern or a light aircraft something, but it went in a perfectly straight line, at a constant speed. (weather was very fine, no wind on the ground at all, I know there would have been some up high up) It was under some very light cloud cover, and it went right over us. I did try to take a picture, but the street lights and the spot lights on the pub made it impossible to get a picture on my phone. There were no flashing lights, and it made no nosie. I've seen plenty of lantern videos on the net, and this looked nothing like them. My mate who is/was very skeptical said the same thing. It went from one end of the horizon, to the other, in about 1 minute.

edit to add this little article. Just to highlight that there are lots of people seeing strange orange lights in the sky. (it's an article about triangle ufos, but the second paragraph mentions lots of orange lights in July) http://www.examiner.com/x-2363-UFO-...angle-UFOs-back-in-the-skies-over-four-states

That is a DEFINITE shooting star.

You should have made a wish.

:)

It is the perseids. There will be more and more, peaking about August 12th-ish.

LOL, no, it really wasn't. A slow moving bright orange light? A shooting star? Purlease. I saw a shooting star last night. It was a very quick bright flash in the upper athmosphere. I didn't feel the need to report it, becasue I knew just what it was. I see lots of theml, I'm lucky, not much light pollution out here. (I didn't make a wish, because it was too quick) This thing, went acros the whole of the horizon, at a constant speed, in a straight line. Shooting stars just skim the athmosphere, and all you really see is a very fast streak of light. (pluss the persieds aren't about just yet, they start in about a week or so, and peak from the 12th to the 15th of August :) *that's from memory*

It also wasn't a satellite. it was LOW (ish) in the sky. It was DEFINATLY NOT a shooting star :)

Yep. They are not all the same.

:)

Perseids are about. I saw a few the other night.

This was low down, it wasn't a shooting star :D I don't give a fuck how many differrent types of shooting stars there are. if you can show me 1 single video of one that looked like that, i MAY concede. But it's going to have to be a good one.

I have nothing to prove. You wouldn't listen anyway, innit.

Just sounds very much like a shooting star, and we are in the season for the perseids.

:)

I respect that, but seriously, it was far too bright, and far too low and slow to be any kind of shooting star. I'm a sky watcher, I see lots of shooting stars. ( i did see a very strange one last night, on top of the normal one. It was a round light, which just kind of "bounced" into and out of view. Split second styleee. It was way cool, I'd never seen one like that before

All different kinds of meteors hitting the atmosphere in different ways.

:)

coming down lower than the clouds (very light cloud cover, if any, but it was lower than clouds), and just moving rather slowly over the sky? Like I say, give me 1 recorded example and I may listen. Until then, you've given me zip, to convince me that it was a shooting star. A lantern is what it MOST resembled, but it didn't match any video I've seen of them either. (they tend to go with the wind anyway, and not travel in a perfect line and a constant slow speed) Even my skeptical mate who saw it too, remains well unconvinced by the lantern theory.

Shooting stars travel at top speed, as there's nothing to slow them down in space. Even the athmosphere doesn't slow them down that much.

Without seeing what I saw, there's no way you can say that it was this that or the other :D

All i can say, is that there's no way on this green earth, that it was a shooting star. It probably wasn't an alien space ship either :D But it was definatly an unidentified flying object. It had shape, there was no trail what so ever. It was not a shooting star, period.

I am just going off your description.

Your description sounds like a mildly unusual meteor that occurred during the most visible meteor shower of the year.

And like I say, point me in the direction of the scientific evidence for this type of shooting star, and i might believe you. :)

If it's common enough for you to have seen one and heard of them, then it's on record somewhere. With videos and pictures.

Anyway, I've got work to do, stop distracting me

:D

it was way more like a single one of these "ufo balloons" but it didn't go with the wind. It went in a straight line. Also, it didn't appear to be lit from underneath (though it could have been, I was pretty drunk)

i suppose the link would help :D

Nothing will convince you otherwise though innit. Nothing. If you want to be convinced go and do it yourself innit.

I am not trying to convince you.

All I am saying is that if you have described something that sounds like a mildly unusual meteor, during the most visible meteor shower of the year, it is pretty likely that it is a meteor.

I have seen similar ones myself.

:)

I am not going to watch youtube videos of UFOs innit.

Like I said, if you have described something that sounds like a mildly unusual meteor, during the most visible meteor shower of the year, it is pretty likely that it is a meteor.

it's not a video of UFOs :D It's a video of lots of lantern type balloons being released at some celebration. I was just making the comparrison with something that it DID actually look like, and not some far out wishy washy excuse for a shooting star. (which is 100% wasn't)

Anyway xes, as always, you are convinced that it something extraordinary. You have already decided that innit.

I am just offering a fairly plausible explanation. You don't have to accept it. I didn't think you would anyway.

and as always, there's someone who's as equally convinced that I can't tell the difference between a fucking meteor and something else.

Go patronise someone else please :)
