Yeah, the Barlett is some seriously hard world! My mate Alyssia's there and she's constantly cutting out bits of paper and doing sticky-things and shit.

Alyssia with the funny Polish surname that I'm obviously not gonna post on the internet?

Yes B, I've passed the first year... Had a lot of health problems over the last couple of years so they're being pretty decent to me.

Which college are you at now? What are you hoping to study here?

I'm at Brown University now in Rhode Island. I'm hoping to study biology, but also to take classes in some other departments. Our study abroad office can be pretty vague so I'm not sure about what classes I get to take.

Nah, Alyssia 1st year with a japanese surname.

Has she had a nervous breakdown yet? if not she'll probably just about make it to the end of the year... Be very careful around her for the last few weeks of term though, they tend to make people a bit err... edgy. It's the 168 hour weeks that do it.

I've just been to see her, actually. She's spent all night awake working away at something called a "crit" as well as two essays/presentations that are due in.

She works more in one day then I've done in my whole year at Uni.

Ahhh crits... Horrible, horrible things they are. Basically you have to present your project up to that point in front of a panel of tutors and 20-30 other students. At the Bartlett this means your work is being scutinised in depth by some of the best architecture tutors in the world... And then Peter Cook (Archigram) walks in. If one of these people slates your work, and they often do (although they're not supposed to swear or throw models out of the window anymore) it's horribly demoralising. I've seen people burst into tears in crits (and have come pretty close myself). On the other hand it makes you work like a bastard and it gives you a pretty thick skin for when you leave.

aye- PhD genetics, few years ago.

Sooooo....stucco, I know a lot of people from biology/ genetics and which classes are worth taking and which lecturers just don't give a shit. If you ever need to know. :)

The crit rubbish sounds horrible.

I'm doing the right course, Politics at SSEES. It means I can sit in my boxers at midday posting on urban.
